Frankly surprised no mention of this release other than GodsComic comment in the Sunday Flyers.

This is a great record. Reviews/comments often say that its reminisent of older Wilco. It has less of the experimentation of YHF and GIB, but it reflects development. Lyrically, it is more direct than other outings. Jeff's vocals are stronger/confident. The song writing is simple yet daring, with interesting structures and choices which work...rootsy experimentation. Some very fine guitar playing throughout.

And a great hommage to early Ono Band Lennon: the raw emotion and simple guitar riff rock of 'Hate It Here'.

I liked it upon first listen, and it has grown on me ever since.

(from a price standpoint, I passed on the 9.99 @ BB - paying 13.99 at a local indy which announced they will be closing their doors end of June.)

wonderful album.

i thought of the plastic ono band the first time heard it.

i did get mine at best buy (gift card) , but it certainly wasn't $9.99, it was $13.99.

You guys are right on top of it. I was just logging on to ask if anyone cared to offer an opinion.

I will hop on this asap.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I totally agree-- it's great. The first three and last three tracks are as good as anything they've ever done.

But it's Sky Blue Sky. :)

The first announcement I read about this album referred to it as Blue Sky Blue, and I thought Laurie Anderson's phrase Sky Blue Sky would be nicer. And sure enough, that turned out to be the correct title.

I ended up ordering my copy from Deep Discount, since they had the best price with the DVD,so I'm still waiting on it. But I heard the album as it streamed on Wilco's site, and really enjoyed it in all its mellow glory. Makes me think of John Stirrat and Pat Sansone's band Autumn Defense.

And if you like Sky Blue Sky, and haven't heard the new Autumn Defense yet, I highly recommend you check it out.

Really Renny? I saw it @ 9.99 on BB website - so I just assumed...yet another reason why they suck...

..."Sky Blue Sky"...oops...did not know the source. It is a wonderfully phrase which Jeff's voice makes so poinant.

Glad others are enjoying it as much as I am.

This disc has given Wilco it's first-ever top five posting on the Billboard chart. From today's Billboard Online:

"Wilco earns its biggest charting and sales week yet, as "Sky Blue Sky" (Nonesuch) bows at No. 4 with 87,000 copies. It's the Chicago-based rock group's second top 10 album and surpasses the No. 8 entry that greeted 2004's "A Ghost Is Born," which sold 81,000. Nearly a quarter of its sales this week were snapped up via digital retailers."

The high grade 180g double vinyl comes with the CD as a bonus. You just don't get the DVD; which most of us don't watch anyway.

The DVD on this one is worth having though... it runs about an hour and is full of really neat, insightful interviews with the band and especially Jeff Tweedy on where they were going with this album, plus live-in-the-loft performances of most of the album's songs. Really really good stuff.

I need to hunt down the DVD version sometime, sure I could get it on Ebay sometime soon.

I'm really happy with the album, 100x more enjoyable than the last album.

It look a couple of replays but this is my favorite Wilco album yet. Excellent songwriting and musicianship, not a bad track here.

Thanks for the heads-up. Damn it now I have to get it as well. From what I've heard it blows away the last two. It will be hard to beat the first two though.

If you bring in a printout of their website and they see today's date on the printout, they adjust the price right there on the spot. they have done this for me twice recently.
