InsideOut is the label releasing this comp.

It contains a newly recorded version of Can I Tell You which leads off the compilation. That is the only new/unreleased track on this collection. It then goes in reverse chronological order.

Discs 1 and 3 are identical between the USA and European versions. Disc 1 has Can I Tell You + 2 songs from The Absence of Presence + 3 songs from The Prelude Implicit + 3 songs from Somewhere to Elsewhere + 2 songs from Always Never the Same + 2 songs from Freaks of Nature. Disc 3 has 1 song from Two For the Show + 2 songs from Point of No Return + 2 songs from Leftoverture + 2 songs from Masque + 3 songs from Song for America + 3 songs from Kansas.

Disc 2 is different between the USA and European versions. Nothing from In the Spirit of Things and Power appears on the USA version. Breakdown on the European version is 2 songs from In the Spirit of Things + 3 songs from Power + 2 songs from Drastic Measures + 3 songs from Vinyl Confessions + 2 songs from Audio-Visions + 2 songs from Monolith. USA version has 3 songs from Drastic Measures, + 3 songs from Vinyl Confessions + 4 songs from Audio-Visions + 3 songs from Monolith.

Power and In the Spirit of Things were released on MCA in the United States, and it's probably a pretty good bet that licensing issues are responsible for those albums not being represented on the USA version. Just want to make clear that it speculation on my part, no official word from InsideOut that I have seen.

Kansas will celebrate their 50th anniversary with extensive touring in North America in 2023. The band is currently comprised of original drummer Phil Ehart, bassist/vocalist Billy Greer, vocalist/keyboardist Ronnie Platt, violinist/guitarist David Ragsdale, keyboardist/vocalist Tom Brislin, and original guitarist Richard Williams.

All I Wanted from Power is missing. Stand Beside Me from In the Spirit of Things is missing. Both were minor singles here and also were MTV videos. Also, these two songs are my favorites songs from those albums. But then again, those two albums are on the European editions and those songs probably weren't hits over there back then.

Since InsideOut is releasing this, I think the intent was probably to lean towards the proggy side for this comp. Debatable IMO if they accomplished that. But considering the original studio versions of Carry On Wayward Son and Dust in the Wind are not on this, it's probably safe to say they weren't shooting for a traditional "best of" (Two For the Show version of Carry On Wayward Son and Always Never the Same version of Dust in the Wind are included). Point of No Return is missing altogether. But as far as trying to be more on the proggy side, the Mysteries and Mayhem + The Pinnacle...both songs are absent which is the strangest thing about this comp.

Well, it's certainly not a "Greatest Hits". That's for sure.

Keep in mind, we all have our preferences as for what constitutes a favorite song..........

As you can tell, I'm a huge fan of 1979's Monolith and included 6 songs from that.

And I put 2 versions of All I Wanted (studio and live) because they're quite different in presentation. I like both, so I have both.

My comp ends at Somewhere to Elsewhere because I made it before the last 2 studio discs. I'll probably wait for another Kansas studio album and make disc 4.

No "Down the Road" from "Song for America"? That song flat out rock!!!!

Not a favorite of mine. Tastes vary as I said.

That's what I always loved about classic Kansas. They could go from hard rock bar band to progressive rock band on one album.

Atrocious compilation.

They ignored the MCA albums including one of their biggest hits “All I Wanted.”

They have live versions of their biggest songs which nobody wants on a comp.

“Point of Know Return” isn’t even on this???

3 CDs and they still butchered it.

The only good comp is Sail On from 2004 which includes songs from every album and a DVD of rarities.

Even that comp isn’t perfect, as each disc could’ve had more songs on it and a number of music videos are absent from the DVD.
