Hmmm....I wonder if they'll follow the recent timeline or do a Tim Burton and mess everything up?
A little of both. They can follow the recent timeline and still do their own Planet of the Apes. In the series, it is time for a huge time leap of 2000 years into the future.
What we've had so far replaces movies 3, 4, and 5. Now it's time for 1 and 2. Yay!

I...I kind of want this.
I still haven't seen the last one of these. I need to see it. I can forgive myself for not bothering with Star Wars or Marvel...but apes...I need to respect the fictional ape genre that was my first love as a fan(boy).
I hope they re-do the original movie, since the first one of this series showed the launch of the spaceship Taylor was on happening on TV, so...let's hope so.

I think I saw the reboot before this trilogy and found it wanting, so I ignored the first of these new ones when they came out—thinking it was just more of the same. But I was intrigued by Li'l Jay's comparison of these latest three to the classic movies 3, 4, and 5. And I like the idea now we might get 1 & 2 as time-sequential sort of sequels. We'll see. I didn't pay much for them off eBay, so they don't have to do much for me to get my money's worth out of them. It'll be fun to see some pseudo updates of movies I'm nostalgic for.
That said, I still haven't finished watching my copy of Godzilla (2014).

The reboot trilogy of Planet of the Apes is among the very best I've ever seen -- and I say this as someone with no childhood nostalgia for this franchise. I'd put it above Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, which I regard as the finest superhero film series ever.

I might not take it that far, but I agree they are really good, satisfying films. I also have no nostalgia for the originals....in fact I tend to find them cheesy and silly, other than the first one. They were before my time though. I'm sure if I had been 5-10 years older I'd have been into them.
