I like that remix, though it's an odd choice as a preview since Bowie isn't heard until after the two minute mark, two-thirds of the way through. Definitely getting it.

It's definitely not what I expected. The gradual build-up of instruments and the late vocal entry almost make it sound like a homage to... "Sound & Vision"!

An early showing of the film in IMAX is scheduled for September 12th at selected theaters across the country. I already have my ticket!
How was it mate?
It was really different. Definitely not a documentary. More of an audio and video montage / art film. The only dialogue was interviews with Bowie himself. No talking heads or critics. This is the same writer/director who did the Rolling Stones Crossfire Hurricane. I'm definitely glad I saw it, especially in IMAX. The visuals and music were outstanding. Lots of clips I have never seen and lots of new music mixes done just for the film. It covered the periods up thru the Serious Moonlight Tour in great length and detail, but kinda skimped and compressed a lot after that. And there seemed to be some repetitive clips and music. As long as you don't go in expecting a biopic in chronological order or a greatest hits sampler, you won't be disappointed.

One critic called it “hypnotic 4 stars!” and that’s true if you sat in a room, put on a psychedelic kaleidoscope, dropped acid and then put some Bowie on, that’s essentially what this movie is all about. I ended up disappointed and the over 2 hr running length was a bit much. Learned a little bit more bout Bowie but the main theme is he was a chameleon and dabbled in all the art forms (almost forgot he was on Broadway in the Elephant Man).
One thing is for sure, their will never be another Bowie, maybe a copycat but not the real thing.

This film was amazing. Stunning. Inspiring. Buying the tickets, I was kind of taken aback by the two-plus hour running time, but for me at least, those two hours flew by. The primary criticism seem to be that it does not function as a biography, or even as a documentary, but it is obvious that it was never intended to function as such. Honestly, I don't even think that the movie is about Bowie as much as it is about an artist's drive to express something, about the fearless pursuit of artistic challenge, and about the possibilities created when an artist takes risks and follows a vision or a dream. Bowie, his words, his music, and his performances, are almost used as something of a case study in support of this overall message.
Go and see it on the big screen!

I just received this and am really enjoying it. Currently listening to the Jean Genie version with Jeff Beck that Geff referenced above. Sounds awesome!
