forgive me if this is "off limits" here or summink, this is my first EVER non-wanderground post...

Had a big old discussion today with workboys (fairly similar taste) about the best album ever, & how even the very best (ok computer, queen is dead, pistols, nevermind, exile on main st, forever changes, vu & nico etc) have 1 or 2 average moments on them...

i basically plumped for r.e.m's "murmur" as my best overall album - is NOTHING that isn't genius on it - infact, just mentioning 'we walk' & 'laughing' had my workmates kind of agreeing

what's your best album ever?

This Is The Sea - The Waterboys

For me every song on it is great.

I can still remember where I was when I first heard "The Whole of the Moon"

Rod Stewart - Every Picture Tells a Story

Bearing in mind that this thread asks for our favorite album of all-time (as opposed to favorite artists), Rod Stewart is not even close to being my favorite artist (in fact, I don't care for most of his music - especially after 1975).

This album, however, is a perfect blend of blues, folk, and country. The only song that doesn't completely thrill me is "Maggie May" - and this is due more to overexposure than to the quality of the song.

(If only Rod had stayed this course over a longer period of time).

Abbey Road

As phenomenal as the album is, it's even more amazing when you consider that just a few months prior to recording it, The Beatles spent a month recording probably the worst music of their professional lives. That they could come out of the disastrous "Get Back" sessions and record something as breathtaking as Abbey Road is nothing short of astonishing.

Oh Good Lord! You guys are trying to kill me, aren't you? There is no way that I can pin down one album as being the best, the greatest. I just can't do it. My poor widdle brain has too much music stuff to deal with. It's overload, I'll tell ya! LOL!

"Close to the Edge" is the album that has offered me the most over it's long life, both musically and conceptually.

XTC's Skylarking. Not a bum note on it, whether the original version with Mermaid Smiled or the reissue with Dear God in its place. The whole thing flows from one song to another and the whole thing hangs together perfectly.

The Runt done good, with that one.
