As some of you may know, I do some DVD reviewing and such. Since The Writers' Block is dedicated to writing, and these reviews are one aspect of my regular writing routine, I figure why not post them here from time to time? I try to dabble in a wide range of styles, and this is one of them. Not very "creative," maybe, but I figure anything that keeps you working with words is a good thing.

I wrote this one just last night (wrapped it up at around 11:00), so I've not yet had time to decide if I like it or not. But it's "fresh," so here you go:
Quote:
The military is, at least on the surface, built upon foundations of rigid discipline and adherence to a strict chain of command. Break that chain of command or act against the dictates of your superior officer, and the house of cards designed to keep young men functioning in the ultimate crisis – war – falls apart. And that is how people die.

So what to do when a vital link in that chain of command is faulty? When the man issuing orders is unstable, unreliable and potentially a danger to the hundreds at his command?

This is the question explored by The Caine Mutiny, the classic 1954 military drama featuring the legendary Humphrey Bogart.

I dashed this one out last night. The image is a link, so if you click it, you'll go to the review:

Eraserhead review, written at midnight just moments after seeing it for the first time. Real, unfiltered first impressions. I don't think the piece was even edited.

Did a review of Cult of the Suicide Bomber. The documentary pissed me off. I think I wrote it in an angry mood.

It's not a great review by any stretch, but I love The Goonies, and so reviewed it. Good times!

Despite being an impossibly pretentious film, I thought my writeup for this one came out okay:

dial H-I-S-T-O-R-Y

And this is not an example of great film criticism, it's an example of pure, unabashed fanboy gushing:

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

One of the few pieces of writing I've done in recent days (clock the image, it's a link):

Who does the logo design and such for those pics?

My buddy Tim, who is also the owner of the website. They're usually based partly on the screencaptures we take for the reviews. I'll get 10 or 12 screengrabs, he'll pick one and use that for the basis of the banner.

I have been wondering when season two of my beloved MUPPET SHOW would finally come out. A fine and informative review, Eric. Thanks!
