Description
For the first time in over a decade, 20 of the Sex Pistol’s recordings from 1976 to 1978 are collected together to tell the story of one of the world’s most influential and extraordinary bands.

The tracks here cover the entire initial period of the band’s recording career – from Anarchy in The UK, through Never Mind The Bollocks to the post John Lydon Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle soundtrack featuring early demos, cover versions and more.

The compilation is completed by some essential B-sides – I Wanna Be Me (the flipside of Anarchy…), ‘Satellite’ (the B-side of  ‘Holidays In The Sun’) and Did You No Wrong (from ‘God Save The Queen’).

The CD features a black and white photo of the band with colour logo, packaged in a jewel case.

Man they've got to be passing the Doors by now for rereleasing compilations, right? I have owned all these songs in like 5 or 6 different comps and formats...and I don't even have all of them that have been released.

From Johnny Lydon’s Facebook page:

Quote:
Universal Music Group have announced the release of a new Sex Pistols compilation entitled ‘The Original Recordings’. For the avoidance of any doubt, John Lydon has not approved this compilation and does not endorse or support it. He has not approved the artwork or tracklisting.

He and his team were not involved in producing this compilation and consider it substandard compared to previous Universal releases since 2012.

File under "inessential", I'm sure.

After the fiasco with the recent "complete" demos boxed being partially MP3-sourced, safe to say it would take something AMAZING for me to spend any more on the Sex Pistols back catalog.

The Original Recordings’ is coming out as a companion to Pistol, Danny Boyle’s new Disney+ series on the Sex Pistols, which received a May 31 release date.

Created and written by Craig Pearce and directed by Danny Boyle, the six-episode series Pistol is based on Steve Jones‘ memoir Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol and boasts a cast of newcomers, including Toby Wallace as Jones, Jacob Slater as Paul Cook, Anson Boon as John Lydon and Christian Lees as Glen Matlock.

Pistol also features Louis Partridge as Sid Vicious, Sydney Chandler as Chrissie Hynde, Talulah Riley as Vivienne Westwood, Maisie Williams as punk icon Jordan, Emma Appleton as Nancy Spungen and Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Malcolm McLaren.

An official synopsis for Pistol, described as being about “a rock and roll revolution”, reads: “The furious, raging storm at the centre of this revolution are the Sex Pistols – and at the centre of this series is Sex Pistols’ founding member and guitarist, Steve Jones.

Almost exactly the same track list as 1992's Kiss This (though presumably with proper track gaps this time), except "Lonely Boy" (no one's favorite Pistols song) replaces "Don't Give Me No Lip, Child" (which at least has Lydon on vocals!). But sounds like they need "Lonely Boy" to make the connection with Jones' memoir.
