Description
• Newly remastered release of classic underground rock album from 1970

• With fully restored artwork and new essay

Newly remastered edition of the classic 1970 album by the UK progressive/hard rock band Elias Hulk. Hailing from Bournemouth, Elias Hulk formed in 1969 and featured Peter Thorpe (lead vocals), Neil Tatum (lead guitar), Granville Frazer (rhythm guitar), James Haines (bass) and Bernard James (drums).

Adopting a hard-edged progressive rock approach (akin to acts of the era such as High Tide and May Blitz), the band began performing on the UK underground live circuit and came to the attention of producer Miki Dallon who signed the band to his small independent Youngblood label in the Autumn of 1970. Issued at the end of November the same year, ‘Unchained’ was greeted with acclaim by the press, but failed to sell in any significant quantities.

The passage of time led to the album’s reputation gaining momentum and it became highly sought after by collectors, with original copies attaining vast sums. This Esoteric Recordings edition has been newly remastered and features an illustrated booklet with a new essay and marks a welcome return to CD for this classic album.

I rather like the look of this. The cover art is splendidly distasteful. I believe Professor Warren cloned this Elias chap as well, although my memories are somewhat foggy. I blame the cloning process, of course - 'twas through no fault of my own that my recollection is...hazy.

How did this band avoid being sued by Marvel? I see it's a 1970 release, so wonder if it was ever litigated. Otherwise, is the fact it's a reissue enough to stop Marvel from suing now for copyright infringement?
