I received this bit of e-mail:

Greetings from Amazon.co.uk,

We've noticed that customers who have expressed interest in music by Augustus Pablo have also ordered Exodus: 30th Anniversary Edition/Usb Memory Stick by Bob Marley. For this reason, you might like to know that Exodus: 30th Anniversary Edition/Usb Memory Stick will be released on 28 May 2007. You can pre-order your copy for just £17.99 by following the link below.

Exodus: 30th Anniversary Edition/Usb Memory Stick

I'm usually on top of new formats, but I don't get this at all.

Added release date to Monkeyboy's thread title. ~ Linda

An NME article gives some idea of the limited nature of these reissues:

Bob Marley album to be reissued on USB stick

16.May.07 11:44am

Bob Marley's classic album 'Exodus'is to be reissued in a USB Memory Stick format and Micro SD Memory Card format.

The 30th anniversary version of the LP will be released on May 28. The USB memory stick version will be limited to 4,000 copies, and will contain three videos recorded at London's Rainbow Theatre in June 1977.

The Micro SD Memory Card will also be made as a limited edition collectors item of 2,000 copies.

In addition to the new formats, the album will also be released as a CD which comes with a hardback case, and a deluxe CD which also includes 12 songs on a DVD, recorded live during Marley's concerts at the Rainbow Theatre in London.

The LP will be packaged exactly the same as the original release was back in 1977.

Because of the very limited nature of the two "computer format" versions of this reissue, and the lack of clear information on the American sites as to what we'd be getting, I'm only going to list the Amazon UK pre-order forms for the USB and Memory Card releases. Here's the USB version:

To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the seminal Reggae album, recorded by Bob Marley and the Wailers whilst in exodus in London, Exodus is reissued in a series of never before available formats.

Exodus: 30th Anniversary edition is the first album to be released on the 256mb USB card format, a limited edition release containing the original album in mp3 format as well as videos taken from Bob Marley & The Wailers Live at the Rainbow.

A collector's item for Bob Marley and technology fans alike.

Audio:
1.Natural Mystic
2.So Much Things To Say
3.Guiltiness
4.The Heathen
5.Exodus
6.Jamming
7.Waiting In Vain
8.Turn Your Lights Down Low
9.Three Little Birds
10.One Love/People Get Ready

Video (Live at the Rainbow):
1. Exodus
2. Jamming
3. The Heathen

Plus:
Extras
Wallpaper

(One assumes that the videos will be in computer formats that will play on any PC or Mac in the world.)

Note ~ this isn't mentioned at Amazon UK, but Island Records says that initial copies of the USB version will come with a free "USB Dog Tag Holder". There's no way to guarantee you'll get this dog tag, but obviously the odds increase the sooner you pre-order.

And here is the "Micro SD Memory Card" version:

(Note ~ Amazon UK's tracklist for this is incorrect, in fact it will contain exactly the same contents as the USB version above.)

Steve T. posted this elsewhere, so I'm adding it to this thread. Looks like there's going to be a domestic release of this anniversary edition.

Musictap reports that therre will be a 30th Anniversary Edition of Exodus coming out on September 25th. Until we get details, I have to wonder just what else could be added (if at all) to the great Deluxe Edition of this we all picked up just a few years back?

I have the UK import. It's actually less than the DE. It's just the original tracks and the Live at the Rainbow dvd packaged together as a book that immediately falls apart from the binding (if yours is anything like mine).

If you already have the DE, save your money and your time and just pick up Live at the Rainbow.

The 30th Anniversary edition of Exodus is finally getting a domestic release on November 20th ...

Standard Edition (CD only):

Marley's consistent (certainly by reggae standards) album career has proffered many great songbooks, of which EXODUS is just one good example. The singles "One Love" and "Jamming" will be familiar to anyone with even a passing acquaintance with Jamaican music, but just as vital are the touchingly vulnerable love song "Waiting In Vain," the title track, and the splendid "Guiltiness." This was the first album to feature Junior Murvin on guitar, while the expressive use of horns adds new texture to the established quality of the Wailers' backing. Like most of his work, vital for a comprehensive collection.

And yet another 30th Anniversary Edition variation of the Exodus album has been released! This one is a Hardcover Book/CD Set:

Image

Recorded in London while Marley recovered from an assassination attempt, Exodus was released on June, 3rd 1977; in 1999, Time magazine called it the “best album of the 20th century.” Rock critic Richard Williams has created a magnificent illustrated tribute to the reggae legend featuring rare photos from the Marley family archives and perceptive essays by today’s finest music writers, including Robert Christgau and Chris Blackwell. Williams had exclusive access to new material, and many of those associated with Marley personally and professionally lend their voices to the book. And, for the first time, all the lyrics are included, with commentary by Linton Kwesi Johnson. Best of all, it comes with a CD of Marley’s masterpiece so you can listen as you read.
