I've been re-watching Babylon 5. Such a good show.
So any reboot is bound to be disappointing, I expect.

I'd have a look at this since Straczynski is writing it. It's not like they've handed the franchise over to someone who doesn't understand or respect it (which seems to be the common practice). From now on I'll be referring to Straczynski as 'The Straz' in this thread. Just to avoid any potential future confusion.

It was SOOOOOOOO good, it’s hard to believe a retread can be anything but a pale comparison. You can’t go home again, as someone said.

Well maybe you can't go home again but maybe you can have something that's a variation on an enjoyable theme. Like a good cover version of a classic song or something. I loved the original Babylon 5 but if they're doing some sort of revised version - and The Straz is writing it - I'll give it a go.

Yeah, and you can even see the issues he's going to face within the original series - the decision to add a 5th season after originally planning for 4 really put a drag on the quality. I don't know how you can reboot the series when (spoilers, duh) the original series showed the entire life of the stations, and the singular story of the Shadow War, the birth of the Alliance and the departure of the first ones that forms the heart of Babylon 5's arc is so grand that anything else done in the universe is going to seem petty by comparison.
It also is going to suffer from the inability to do cameos and whatever happened to... stories since, tragically, so many of the original cast has passed away, and the ones who aren't seem to be doing something called Space Command.

From what I hear, JMS is involved and will be doing not so much an update or reboot as a reimagining. The same language, but a different song. Michael and I were re-re-watching the original but I lost heart to finish when he passed.

During the 4th season, he was told that the 5th season had been greenlit, then afterwards told no, it was ending with 4. They rushed season 4 to include what would have been season 5. After that, the 5th season was approved.

I just finished watching it in my recent re-watching of the show, and thought they were covering a lot of story quickly.

I don't know if I'll watch it, but I'm curious to see what he does. Other than maybe letting the story not be so rushed during season 4, there's also the idea of Commander Sinclair not leaving the show and being replaced by Captain Sheridan. I know the original plan was Sinclair was going to be there the entire series, but O'Hare's illness threw a monkey wrench into those plans.

Yeah, it would be interesting to see the originally envisioned storyline (if they can get guaranteed funding to shoot The whole thing).

So long as the scariest looking alien becomes a spiritual leader, I am good.

One thing I kind of was irritated about was how much Delenn changed from the pilot to the series. It would have been even more of a shocker if that super strong, very androgynous, very alien diplomat became a bridge between two species.
