From a new interview with Alex Lifeson in SPIN magazine when asked about a Moving Pictures deluxe edition this year...
"There are a lot of plans that have been developing. A lot of stuff floats to us for approvals and comments, but yes, there is a package and it's quite extensive. From what I've seen, it looks really, really cool. Can you believe it's been 40 years? I feel so old. All of the stuff is really, really cool."

Exit is my favorite Rush live album.
But there’s little chance you’ll get a full show like the set list above.
I do have a few shows from that tour (Chicago is a great one) and that full set is awesome.
Very frustrating that the Exit concert video was so short and they had Neil talk over his drum solo!
I’ve heard there actually may be alternate mixes and takes included this time, but that may not be accurate.
The 2011 edition was pretty lame, so here’s to hoping this one is worthy.

This is my favorite Rush album, so this is a no-brainer instabuy for me. I told my wife early this year that I hoped this was coming, and that this would be the big box Rush set that I'd buy.

I already own a Deluxe Edition of Moving Pictures from 2011 with a 5.1 mix DVD . How much more deluxe can it get?
Maybe if Steven Wilson does a 5.1 (& Atmos) remix of Moving Pictures on Blu-Ray along with another live set from the tour (as someone already suggested), it would be an improvement to The Deluxe Edition of the album.

I already have the 30th anniversary CD+DVD edition with the excellent surround sound mix so this new 40th anniversary edition would have to be an impressive upgrade over that one for me to bite. Would love to have a full show from that tour, audio &/or video, since the 1981 show at Madison Square Garden was the first time I saw them. I was always disappointed with the sound of Exit Stage Left, especially the original vinyl, but the song selection & performances still made it one of the all-time great live albums.

That was the only one of the 5.1 Rush mixes that was really good. They worsened in quality as other titles in the catalog got released.
I'm not referring to any Steven Wilson mixes, which I haven't' heard.

Other than the drum solo in Mark's post of the tours set list, it appears everything in included (Maybe the drum solo is not individually tracked, but included as part of one of the other tracks? Hard to believe they would cut out a NP solo).

Maybe my reading comprehension is not so good but does this have a 5.1 or 7.1 Atmos mix???
In my car I always have at the ready the 5.1 version of Moving Pictures on the DVDA that came out years ago. It sounds fantastic in there. Go for a ride in my TL and enjoy YYZ in surround glory.

From the Rush web site...
Quote:
Blu-ray Audio disc presents the first-ever Dolby Atmos & new 5.1 surround album mix including the brand-new video for “YYZ” + 3 music videos for “Tom Sawyer,” “Limelight” & “Vital Signs.”
I wish this was a good bit cheaper, but it is my favorite Rush album, so I'll be in for the big one. I'm sure I'll have at least some buyer's remorse, but I'll do it.

Both the Super Deluxe Edition and the Deluxe Edition are now available for pre-order from Amazon USA. Links are in the first post. (The Canada and UK links should also become active soon.)
I've updated the description in the first post with the latest solicitation from Universal, which confirms that the Blu-ray (which is exclusive to the big Super Deluxe box set) will include hi-res surround mixes. But if you can bear to live without the Blu-ray, the humble 3CD Deluxe Edition is very economical by comparion (one-tenth the price of the SDE).
Check out the official unboxing video and one of the live tracks:

Is a model car more or less ridiculous than the marbles in the Pink Floyd box?
But seriously, I'd like to thank the record label people and the guys in Rush for making it so easy to say no to deluxe sets like this. $300 price-tag. The 3 CDs are in a package on their own and retail for $30. The five vinyl LPs are in a package on their own and retail for $100. So the consumer is literally paying $170 for a Blu-ray and a bunch of junk. Rip-off city. I used to be a sucker for these deluxe sets but it's just so easy to say no to this when it's so obvious what a terrible deal this is for the consumer. So thanks, looks like I have more money to spend on other entertainment options.

None....yet
I wonder if these record companies realize how many sales they’re leaving on the table by not offering the Blu-Ray as a stand alone release. Or maybe they don’t care. (I’ve probably answered my own question with that comment),

They know. The plan is to release the BR for the 50th anniversary when most of us have one foot in the grave or are already dead.

Well, I'm listening to this as I type. Already went thru the album proper and am now on the live stuff (disc 1).
I popped in over at the other place and many are saying this is the 2015 remaster for MP. Then others were saying the live discs weren't near as good as the previous live albums Rush has put out. I don't know what the hell they are listening to, to be honest. The live disc is stupendous. I will say this..... it's sonically WAY better than Exit. Far superior. Screw those DR numbers (I get so sick of that shit).
Then the selection of songs come into play. This was one of the best set lists ever, meaning the way they mixed up old stuff and threw in tons of the MP songs. I saw this show two nights in a row back when the tour was happening. One of the best shows I had ever seen. Sadly, it was the only time I had seen Rush. But if one has to see Rush only once, this was the tour to do it.
If anything, this is worth it for the live discs as the last couple remasters were. I have the Sector sets already, but I'm a live album fanatic.

Just adding a couple things now that I'm done with the set...........
The medley at the end of the show is friggin' awesome. What killed me is La Villa Strangiato. Probably the best live version ever. Smokin'!
The only flaw I can tell you all is at the very end when Geddy says, "Thank you! G'night!" it ends abruptly. You get a few seconds of audience cheer and then boom. Probably the master tapes? Maybe it could've been fixed/dubbed?

There is a Japanese version on 3 SHM-CDs and a bonus DVD. The DVD contains the three promo videos from 1981 (Tom Sawyer, Limelight, Vital Signs) and a music video for YYZ. Would have to assume the video for YYZ is the recent animated video to promote this 40th anniversary reissue.
The Japanese press release for this states that it uses the 2015 Abbey Road remaster.
