Just listened to this album from start to finish. The Mission was my favorite album of 2017, and this one's a contender for 2021. It's a very uplifting album in every sense of the word, and it sounds even more like classic Styx.
I wasn't sold on the title track, but it makes more sense in the context and flow of the album.
It finally dawned on me that at times Lawrence Gowan sounds like a combination of Dennis DeYoung and John Lennon.
Tommy Shaw's lead vocals are strong and prominent throughout.
It appears James "JY" Young's verse on the title track is his only lead vocal on this album, but he really lets his guitar sing on a few tracks.
There a lot more vocal harmonies on this album than The Mission, and they are more than welcome.
The longest song on the album, "Common Ground", clocks in at 4:00. The album is 43:03 but feels shorter; you barely have time to digest one song before the next one begins. But it works!
