Description
"Werewolves Of Portland" is guitarist extraordinaire Paul Gilbert's new solo album, his sixteenth. Because the world went into lockdown early 2020, it wasn't possible to get a band to record in the studio. The result was that Paul plays all instruments on this album: drums (except for ONE snareroll that was too difficult to play), keyboards, bass, and of course guitar. As with Paul's previous album Behold Electric Guitar, the inspiration for the songs did not come from the guitar, but from writing lyrics and singing melodies. Paul explains: "The process of writing lyrics, then melody, then guitar, then backing it all up with the other instruments is a wonderful discovery that really started coming together for me on 'Behold Electric Guitar'."

I've been watching his videos with Josh Scott from JHS Pedals and Paul Gilbert is a really entertaining and engaging guy. I was never a Mr. Big fan or a Racer X fan but I've become a fan of Gilbert as an online presence.

I'll have to give this a listen.

He is great live (seen him at the Iridium in NYC) and the titles of his songs are usually about things that have happened to him (so there is a story with every song that he loves to go into about).

I signed up for his guitar course at ArtistWorks.

He is having a guitar get together Summer camp (Great Guitar Escape) with musicians like Bumblefoot, Eric Gales, Greg Howe, George Lynch, and Tony MacAlpine here on Long Island in July.

When I saw him at the Iridium I was able to snag a seat right in front of him at the stage so when the show ended, I got a guitar pick directly from him. But when I turned around a kid maybe 10 years old looked disappointed he missed getting a pick so I gave him mine. I need to replace that pick. :)
