Description
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of one of one of Jethro Tull’s most radical musical departures, a 3CD/3DVD casebound book deluxe edition of A.

The album introduced a different sound and a new line-up including Dave Pegg and Eddie Jobson (who features prominently on keyboards and violin).

Originally intended as a solo record by Ian Anderson, the album’s single-letter title refers to the studio tapes, which were marked “A” for Anderson. When the album was completed, the group’s label Chrysalis insisted that it be credited to Jethro Tull.

Including:

* The original album and associated recordings remixed in DTS and Dolby AC 3, 5.1 Surround, and stereo 96/24 LPCM by Steven Wilson
* A full concert from the LA Sports Arena recorded in August 1980 mixed by Steven Wilson in DTS and Dolby AC 3, 5.1 Surround, and stereo 96/24 LPCM
* A flat transfer of the original 1980 master at 96/24 LPCM stereo
* Five unreleased tracks from the recording sessions (including the unreleased track Coruisk)
* A DVD of the Slipstream video remixed by Steven Wilson in DTS and Dolby AC 3, 5.1 Surround, and stereo 96/24 LPCM
* A book filled with an extensive history of the album, track-by-track annotations by Ian Anderson, rare photographs and more.

For this new collection, the album has been expanded with including a different take of the single “Working John, Working Joe”, an extended version of “Crossfire” and the outtake “Coruisk”.

Oh yes!

This is glorious news!

I have the LA show on cassette from a radio broadcast and it was awesome.

Jobson added a lot to the band's sound during this transitional phase.

Yep, I'm in. I saw Tull on this tour (my first and only) and I was blown away. I knew it wasn't classic Tull but was pleased all the same.

And to think this started out as an Ian Anderson solo album.

It definitely has its quirky songs. There's a couple that I detest, but the good songs really outweigh the crap ones. Crossfire, Fylingdale Flyer, and Black Sunday are the cream of the crop here.

Great news that Benefit will also “benefit” from the box treatment and will be out this fall and Broadsword and the Beast (yeah!) will be out next year.

Bring out every Chrysalis release I say!

There is no better remix series than these.

No doubt. I have every Wilson remix in either box form or single disc. They all sound better than they ever did.

If you want to hear what Steven Wilson can do with mastering and 5.1, listen to his new album. He really is the master of “remastering” or mastering in general.

I had to fix what I said because these are rarely remastered.

It’s his remixes that are astounding.

Peter Mew did a great job when these were remastered but I’m not sure if they use his or the original masters.

I'll give them $300 today if they need me to help crowdfund The Broadsword and the Beast,
Under Wraps, Crest of a Knave, Rock Island, Roots to Branches, and Benefit.

These have sold extremely well, so I hope there’s no need to crowdfund.

But I’m with ya because those are great albums (aside from Under Wraps, though that was an interesting experiment).

The remasters on those were badly lacking rare tracks, so they can beef them up.

Adding the Philly show from Thanksgiving Eve 1987 for Crest Of A Knave would be great because I was at that show and it was the best Tull gig I ever saw and it was a popular radio broadcast.

I'd love to see a 5.1 mix done of the 25th anniversary re-recordings of classic Tull songs. Those tracks sound stunning and would be amazing in 5.1, Ian Andersons voice isn't brilliant but the music is.

I shouldn't love Tull. I don't listen to much progressive rock. But when I was 8 or 9 I discovered "Heavy Horses" and it just stuck. That's still my favorite album of theirs, but I like the whole catalogue and I'm looking forward to "A" being released in this format.

I had been hoping that some of the unreleased songs would include early versions of songs like "The Clasp" or "Seal Driver"--stuff that would sound interesting with Mark Craney's drumming. I see Cheerio is here, but if it's anything like the Broadsword version it will be short and minimal.

"Protect and Survive" is one of the most underrated Jethro Tull songs EVER.

Anybody get it yet and listen? As usual, this sounds stupendous. The remaster from a few years ago sucks compared to this. I've only listened to the A remix so far. I may comment on the live discs later on.

Yes the packaging is great once again and it does sound stupendous. Some are saying this is the best surround mix yet by SW.

Now I actually never owned this album on lp or CD up till now (I had stopped collecting Tull after Heavy Horses) so this is a revelation for me.

Silly little question, but is the bonus track "Cheerio" like the one on Broadsword? Short and sweet? I'm assuming yes, but just curious.

For some reason this has not yet been made available in a digital format. Not sure why since the Wilson remixes usually are.
