I saw Shooter at a Comic Con a couple of years back. Do I assume correctly that, other than the occasional Con appearance, he's effectively retired now? He has to be in at least his 70s if not older, right?
In the 80s, the Comics Journal letters page was like the bitchiest internet chat forum you've ever seen, only there was a one-month delay between posts.
I just read most of Kevin Nowlan's Modern Masters book from TwoMorrows and he had a nice story about Jim Shooter.
They were discussing his New Mutants annual that got some negative fan reaction and he mentioned that after completing the issue, Shooter had sent him a "thank you" note and some flowers for doing such a nice job on it... which to me seems like going above and beyond to be nice, if anything. He said he was aware of Shooter's reputation but his only dealing with him had been very nice.

That is a nice story. And I can't believe Kevin Nowlan's art would get a negative response (well, I can, but he's a pretty amazing artist. The kids ain't got no cultcha.)

I just started watching this and after 12 minutes, I'll probably watch/listen to it piece by piece. Jim Shooter is pretty interesting. The channel looks like they have other interesting interviews and a bit more mainstream than Cartoonist Kayfabe. Thanks for posting!
I finished the interview. I drive a lot for work. And it was fascinating. If you liked Shooter's old blog, you'll like this. The guys interviewing him are comics fans, one is older than I am and the other is younger maybe 40. They ask all the questions, including about Byrne and other artist's disputes and he doesn't shy away from any questions. I'll watch more interviews by these guys in the future.
