I will always remember Spector as a musical genius and pioneer, and ultimately a morally reprehensible human being.
I will be interested to see how living artists (Darlene Love, Cher among others) who worked with him in his prime (60s, 70s) choose to remember him.

R.I.P.
I can't really add to what's been said. His music will be remembered.

The line between genius and mental illness is often flexible. Spector went beyond hurting himself to hurting others, which is what I find unforgivable. His work, however, is part of the fabric of my life and soul, and for that I will always be grateful.
I hope he is finally at peace.
And that Lana Clarkson is as well.

My hope is that all the great recordings he produced aren't swept under the rug because of what he did in his personal life. It would be incredibly unfair to so many artists.

This is a difficult thing to negotiate. The man did some great work during his career, but also some horrible stuff in his private life. The horrible stuff doesn't negate what he did as an artist, but his art doesn't excuse what he did.

The difference is that he's dead, so he personally can't benefit from anything that gets released from now forward. So...if his being alive held things up, maybe that will change now.

If that were going to happen, it would have happened already. And in the days following his death, surviving influencers -- like Ronnie Spector -- are reinforcing the divide between the man and his music.
