He was in the right place at the right time, and made the most of it.
He holds a special for for me as one of the original British invaders, and " Ferry Across The Mersey " especially will always bring back a rush of good feelings.

Rest In Peace

Here's another one that really hurts. So much of their music was a big part of my high school years. I'll have to listen later. RIP Gerry and thank you for wonderful memories.

Very sad to hear this news. I first became “acquainted” with Mr. Marsden through his contributions to the Compleat Beatles and the Ready Steady Go reruns on the Disney Channel. He seemed like such a cheerful gentlemen, and his bright personality was evident in his singing voice — you could hear the smile. And he and the Pacemakers were responsible for a number of classic tracks.

He came across as humble and appreciative of being in the right place at the right time to be a key part of the Mersey sound and the Epstein stable of acts. I will sorely miss his joy and enthusiasm. Thanks for the wonderful music and memories, Mr. Marsden. Ferry ‘cross the Mersey one last time, but you’ll never walk alone. R.I.P.

This is very sad news.for me.

My very first concert was Gerry and the Pacemakers at the Washington Coloseum otherwise known as the Uline Arena, the very first place the Beatles played in America, in 1964. They were great and almost couldn't be heard for all the girls screaming.

Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying is still one of my all-time favorites from the British Invasion.

Farewell to the first Liverpool artist to reach #1 in the UK.

Rest in Peace Gerry.

R.I.P.

He was always so great in interviews and seemed like a genuinely lovely bloke.

It was several years after I saw that, that I finally heard Cliff Richard's version of "Living Doll." I kinda liked Gerry's off-the-cuff sing-songy country version better.

Paul McCartney has a brief tribute to him on Twitter. It includes a nice photo of Gerry and the Pacemakers along with the Beatles and Roy Orbison.
