I peeked at the ending of Superman/Batman 18, throughout the series, there has been this "Superman from the future" popping in telling Superman that his actions are leading to disaster. They finally wrap up who he is, it's the Superman from the last issue before Byrne took over and redid the continuity---the Alan Moore issues, "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow."
It should be interesting to see the reaction of the Byrne board, as this character sort of invalidates the Byrne revamp, and remember one of the reasons for him quitting Superman was that DC continued to refer to the Silver Age Superman when his version rewrote that. Plus, JB loathes that great Alan Moore story. This should make some heads explode.

I think Byrne's Man of Steel revamp has been invalidated a number of times since he left. Waid's mini-series, definitely took a bite out of what Byrne originally did.
Still, this Superman/Batman arc left a lot of doors open. The whole storyline dealt with alternate timelines. My impression from the last page was that it was just another alternate timeline. It looks like Hypertime is getting another oppurtunity for air time.

I don't think about continuity anymore, I liked the ending.

Hmm.
Think this might be part of a number of little "setups" for some sort of a "kind of" UNdo of CRISIS (of some sort) around the corner (Fall 2005)? Say..........maybe......going by the working name.......... of.........INFINITE CRISIS?
Hmmmm?

John,
Are you sure about that? The Superman at the end of Moore's story was turned into a baby for Lois to raise. I think the Superman that you're talking about is the Golden Age Superman who went with Lois into the "body universe" of Alexander Luthor. Either way, though. Big change is a'brewing it seems.

Wayne, maybe I should reread that one tonight, but wasn't Lois' husband actually Superman in cognito and he had a child with Lois?
And... where is Alexander Luthor these days anyway? Has he ever popped up post-Crisis?

Yeah, Superman was living incognito, brown hair, moustache...I'm pretty sure. I don't remember the baby thing.

Yep, end of the story Superman is living as a normal guy named Jordan Elliot. Used the gold kryptonite to depower himself. He and Lois had a baby that still has his dad's old powers. One of the few Alan Moore stories I liked.

Just thought of something...what if its isnt Jason Todd..what if its the pre-crisis Earth 2 Robin (went missing in the original Crisis issue 12)...?!?
No onw has flat out said its Jason...hell for all I know Earth 2 Robin was Jason Todd...
We are seeing the return of a lot of pre-crisis characters...so maybe the whole Jason Todd thing is a feint and a set up for the new Infinite Crisis...

I hope Infinite Crisis is a Earth-hopping high-concept story and not some doom and gloom rape, murder series.

It is the superman from the Alan Moore issue. The story arc has been dealing with alternate outcomes of heroes lives. At the end superman and Batman set "their" / "our" reality correct and in the process correct the timeline for Alan Moore's superman. He changes from what looks like the Kingdom Come superman back to "Jordan Elliot", depowered and relatively happy superman.
It does look like DC is going back to the "Infinite realities" way of doing things at full speed.

My bad. It's been a while since I read that story. Wonder why he had the Kingdom Come "S", which isn't related to either Moore's story or Crisis?
