Aside from Loeb being named, this is fairly old news. Eisner had been meeting with the producers of the movie prior to his death. Some of the changes that are going to be made were at Eisner's request, such as moving The Spirit to modern times, instead of doing a period piece (which would probably be the most natural thing, considering it hasn't been published since the 50s).

As long as they keep Flash Gordon away from it.

Does anyone else remember a tv movie with the SPIRIT? ..mid 80s..I think on CBS...

I don't remember it, but I've seen a web page, which is where I grabbed the movie pic from up above... starring the Flash Gordon guy no less. Now, if only they'd team him with some annoying Austrian battery spokeman and give him a truck that transforms into a helicopter.
