i've been making a CDR for the car of the guess who the last couple of days....what a really great band they were, song after song after song. so under-rated and so over-looked.

another of those 'should be in the rock hall, but never will" bands, for sure.

Clap For The Wolfman

The absolute foundation of Canadian Rock. The driving guitars, the pounding rhythms, and the emphasis on good times and simple stories. And then the rock band drama, break up, and two great solo careers afterwards. And for a tiny little country compared next door to a cultural behemoth, they showed with American Woman that Canadian artists didn't need to take a back seat to anyone. They also shows artists they didn't need to come from Toronto or Montreal to do it. So thanks to them, there was a massive wave of Canadian rock in the late 70s and early 80s, and a timeless sound that continues in arenas around the world to this day.

They'll never be in the RnR HOF. They - and most of their spiritual offspring - set critics' teeth on edge. Populist and popular means it can't be good, am I right? But they are in the Order of Canada, for contributions to the country, and the Arts.

They're also still going, sort of. I have tickets to see Cummings / Bachman together next summer, which they booked after not killing each other at a charity event here in town a couple years ago. Fingers crossed it doesn't get Covid'ed out again.

Love the New Mother Nature/No Sugar Tonight combo off the album. Clever.

They're in MY rock n roll HOF.

Burton Cummings is one of my favorite rock singers. And I love almost their entire catalog (for example So Long Bannatyne song is on my cruising list, Friends of Mine got played on Halloween when I was a deejay, and Live at Paramount is one of the great underrated live albums). I saw them back in 2001 and, wow, they even played Talisman! How often did they ever play that song live?!

Mine as well. I couldn't care less who's in Jann Wenner's Hall (or whatever corporation owns it now).

XM Radio plays The Guess Who quite often which is ok by me.

I come undun by laughing at the folks who aren’t all in on these guys. They have long enticed me to come north of the border for a trip to share the land for a while. These eyes and ears know a solid frickin’ rock band when they’re right in front of my face. Says me and my American woman, Rebecca.
