linda ronstadt and carly simon had, for the most part, parallel careers. their time to shine was about the same, their songs were popular around the same time and even their session players and friends were pretty the same. they basically ran in the same circles and made the same kind of music along with joni mitchell, other than ronstadt being a west coast laurel canyon girl and simon being a cape cod girl on the east coast

i have, and to no avail, been trying to find a picture of linda ronstadt and carly simon together.

now i know how good our fearless leader linda is on the internet, and there are others here that are pretty darn good too.

the challenge is to find a picture of the 2 of them together, and even better either one of them with joni mitchell and the gem would be all 3 of them in the same frame.

Seems to me they were completely different circles and careers — and coasts. Arizona/SoCal vs the Bronx. Stone Poneys vs the Simon Sisters. Laurel Canyon vs Cape Cod. Linda did a myriad of collaborations and tours. Carly was basically a solo artist and more withdrawn from that kind of scene, despite her string of famous vain lovers. Nor was there the proliferation of TV shows, awards shows, benefits, etc., that we see today. Their careers and lives just never seemed to intersect. That's my take anyway.

As for Joni and Carly, well, I've seen fire and I've seen rain, but I'm hard-pressed to find a photo with fire and rain together either. They supposedly had lunch together somewhere at some time, but I don't see any photographic record of it. Now THAT would be a photo.

The thing about Carly is she has terrible stage fright so she doesn't perform live very often.

this one i thought would be easy, they probably lived walking distance form each other, and graham nash always had a camera, right?

I don't find it odd really. I doubt very much Carly and Joni were very friendly, considering there is probably some rivalry with their mutual love interest James Taylor. Also, I don't know if Joni always was as critical as she seems in her later years of artists, but she has called Bob Dylan a plagiarist. I can only imagine what she may have thought of Carly Simon. Joni's music is excellent, but she is a bit full of herself. I find it more surprising there are not pics of Carole King and Carly Simon together. By contrast you can find a couple pics of Carly Simon and Libby Titus, who were friends. There are also a couple of pics of Carly and Jackie O.
