That's an impressive list, Nemo. It's comprehensive but filled with so many excellent films I can't decide.

I don't know which one to choose. I'll have to think about this one.

All fine choices though I am a bit partial to Get Shorty as I met the director Barry Sonnenfeld a few months ago at a book Q&A and was able to tell him how much I love that film. Fascinating stories on his career and for that particular movie.

I also love The Player, need to rewatch that one!

A bit difficult to choose, because my brain keeps wanting to subdivide all of these. Barton Fink is really a movie about writing. By a certain criteria, you could argue that King Kong is a movie about making movies.

I ultimately chose The Player, because it's the best movie about the movie industry (at that particular time). "Matinee" is an underappreciated gem, too.

I chose The Purple Rose of Cairo simply because it's such an oddly unique film. It's not really 'about' making movies in the way that The Player or A Star is Born are, but it's such a charming and intriguing movie that it got my vote.

The Player, with an honorable mention for the 60s Audrey Hepburn film "Paris when it Sizzles", which is a hilarious take, but not that well known.

I voted Ed Wood, which is probably closest to my experience, although it's kind of painful. At least Bowfinger had a beautiful woman sleeping her way to the middle starting at the bottom. Ed Wood had "We don't have a permit. Run!" which summed up 60% of my Hollywood career.

I do love Ed Wood. It's without a doubt my favourite Tim Burton/Johnny Depp movie. Martin Landau is incredible as Lugosi.

I went with Singing in the Rain. Often overlooked fact: it is a musical.

I don't think of it that way.

"Boogie Nights" is a good movie about making movies. :)

"Singin' in the Rain," mainly because of that wonderful sequence where they do an early screening of the studio's first talkie and EVERYTHING goes wrong. Those were all actual problems that early talkies had to solve.

The first "A Star is Born" is not bad, in an old-fashioned melodrama kind of way. It's also one of the best of the really early full Technicolor features. I didn't enjoy the 1950s remake as much.

"Sunset Boulevard" was best summed up by somebody I knew who described it by saying "That is weird. Creepy weird!"

"The Oscar" is a loathsome movie about a character so loathsome he's virtually unwatchable. It was made at a time when Hollywood, looking to compete with TV by appealing to the lowest common denominator, was deliberately pushing the limits of what you could get away with in mainstream movies, and it shows.

Most of the others I've never seen.
