A concept album, it is a satirical appraisal of the music industry, including song publishers, unions, the press, accountants, business managers, and life on the road. This classic album appeared during a transitional period for the Kinks, and was a critical and commercial success. This set is a limited edition, lavishly packaged, 50th anniversary deluxe 10” book-pack of that album, containing many previously unreleased tracks and versions. Produced in association with The Kinks, with audio & visual content curated by Ray Davies. Ooooo. Yeah. I've been hoping for this.

Amazon UK now shows December 11th as the release date. They only have the 1CD and 2CD versions up for pre-order so far (and that's only for UK customers). More to come!

In the first post, Amazon USA pre-order links are now active and we have a packshot, description and tracklist of the big box. This will be a domestic release in North America, but scheduled for a week later than the UK (December 18th rather than the 11th). Still counts as a Christmas gift for us!

Wondering if I missed a good price. $80 for 3 CDs and 2 45s doesn't entice me.

That has to be the list price, I hope.

At first I thought it was 3 cds and 2 lps...but with the book and 3 cds packed with material - the price is still good - it's the Kinks!

This is a very good album but I’m finding the bonus material a little lackluster and the last edition of this album was only a few years ago.

I mean, we’ve had this remastered/reissued in 1998, 2004, 2014 and 2020.

I’ll have to think about this one for a bit before purchasing.

Is there any plan for the Arista albums to ever get deluxe editions?

This was probably the first full-length Kinks LP to get my attention, and I've purchased the last few super deluxe editions from the Kinks.

That said... it annoys me that this small collection excludes material from the 2CD deluxe edition... I'll have to think on this one.

Canadian Amazon link is now live, priced at $80.02. I want to order it, but I think I'd feel guilty buying something like that for myself the week before Christmas.

I just noticed that Amazon UK now collects the US state sales taxes when shipping here, so one of the price advantages is no longer in place. They still forgive VAT, which reduces the price in pounds, but then some of that reduction goes right away when they add back the US tax. When did that start???

I just tried ordering from Amazon Canada and they say that they can't ship to my US address!!

That has been happening at all the Amazon sites since the pandemic began. Sometimes they will ship to other countries, sometimes it is not available.

The release date for the Super Deluxe Edition has been pushed back to January 22nd. However, the USA pre-order price for the box has been reduced by $12, down to $67.99:
