I haven't found anything yet except that it will be issued in 2 versions. One with a 45 minute dvd as well as the 2 cds and one with just the 2 cds alone

I saw that there will be 2 versions as well.
It's annoying though that it comes out next month and no track list anywhere...

Here's a listing from Barnes & Noble. It doesn't detail what is on the DVD, though.

Howdy, y'all. I hope you don't mind newcomers here.

I think it's mildly annoying that Paul Simon never puts "One Trick Pony" or "Allergies," both singles that charted, on any of his compilations.

At least this time they didn't leave out comp only tracks like "Slip Slidin' Away" or "Stranded In A Limousine".

those of you with copies of paul simon's "greatest hits etc" better get them on ebay, pronto.

once this "essential" comes out it will make "greatest hits etc" lose a great amount of value.

"stranded in a limousine" used to be only on that CD, but now..................

thanks,

Renny,

"Stranded" was included on the 2004 reissue of "One Trick Pony." I stopped searching for a cheap copy of "Greatest Hits Etc" back then. Has it still been selling for exhorbitant prices?

It'd be cool if the DVD has some of his videos.

Including the solo box and imports, this'll be (at least) the 6th Simon compilation in the Archives.

The only video of a Paul Simon song I've ever seen - and a rather amusing one at that - is the one with Chevy Chase for "You Can Call Me Al".

I saw the video for "Rene and Georgette Magritte With Their Dog After The War" once and thought it was extremely well done. Very artsy. I'd love to have a copy of it!

(A description from the web)... "In 1983 Paul Simon commissioned video artist Joan Logue to make his first MTV promo. The resulting tape, "Rene and Georgette Magritte with their dog after the war", evokes the visual style of Rene Magritte's paintings in an electronic idiom, incorporating witty special effects and a seamless editing style. Winner of the Monitor Award for Best Editing and Special Art Direction for 1984/85."

Wow! I'm amazed (although, at one point, finding one for under $40 was nearly impossible.) I've always really liked the song, but it wasn't worth $40 to me. (I just checked iTunes and the track is available there also.)

A few years back, when I was actively selling things on eBay, I sold a "Greatest Hits Etc." for $150.00. I'll bet that guy is grimacing now!

$150.00??!! Wow!
I just told my wife and the first thing she said was SELL IT!!!

As far as videos, I remember seeing quite a few. Ones for "The Boy in the Bubble", and "The Obvious Child" come to mind.

Why is it that none of his comps have included "Think too Much" from Hearts and Bones? That song is the one that made buy it in the first place. I'm positive it was released as a single.

Jeff

I'm pretty sure you're right about "Think Too Much" (the heavier version) being a single. In fact, I think I still have a copy of it stashed away someplace.

I've always felt that "Hearts and Bones" was a very underappreciated LP. Some of my enjoyment of the album might be its sentimental value (as I saw S&G in concert twice the summer before the album's release, and they performed several of the songs that would end up on the album.)

If my memory serves me correctly, the album was originally to have been titled "Think Too Much." As much as I would like it to have been a S&G reunion album, I think it stands up very well as a PS solo album. I've heard the bootleg version of the album (with Garfunkel's vocals on a couple tracks) and don't feel that his vocals really made much difference in my enjoyment of the album.

I collect MTV-style videos and I have about 30,000 or so (yes, that's frightening-and to think I scaled down recently). The Paul Simon vids I have are:
Late In The Evening
Renee And George Magritte With Their Dog After The War
Think Too Much
You Can Call Me Al
Boy In The Bubble
The Obvious Child
Proof
Father And Daughter

Supposedly Thelma had a video, but I never saw it. Hopefully the DVD will compile these videos, but I agree that "Allergies" and "One Trick Pony" should be on this-with 2 CDs there is no excuse, especially with some highly questionable choices on the comp.

"Greatest Hits Etc." is still the only place to find the alternate version of "American Tune" -- although I guess it's possible they're using that version on the new compilation.

Pre-order sale alert ~ bizarrely, the Special Edition with the bonus DVD has been reduced to a dollar cheaper than the plain Standard Edition with no DVD:
