Just saw the news that Frankie Banali of Quiet Riot and WASP has died at 68. He was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer in April 2019 and had recently suffered a series of strokes.

RIP, Frankie.

The guy was upbeat about beating that cancer, but I personally know that when diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic cancer, it's just a matter of time. He lived longer than most folks do with that kind of diagnosis. RIP to a great drummer.

RIP.

Years ago online, I sold a used CD to Mr. Banali. I was a little starstruck! As an acknowledgement, I sketched a Quiet Riot "Metal Health" mask on the back of the package. I wonder if he caught it.

That's a shame; he tried so hard to keep QR a viable entity. Now that he's gone, I have to think they are too

As I understand it, the band has had a revolving door of personnel over the years, so Banali really was the keeper of the flame.

I hope they retire the name once and for all, but I guess it will depend on who owns the rights to the band name.

Frankie was able to continue the band with the blessings of the DuBrow family, so I'm assuming they own a major stake in it.

That makes it possible they continue without him. There is a market, even if they limit themselves to festivals and nostalgia type opening act slots.

P.S. I was surprised to discover that Kevin Dubrow's brother is one of the plastic surgeons on the E! show Botched. Talk about taking different directions...

If that's the case, they may let the surviving members carry on with it. Money talks.

Personally, I think the name and band should be retired.
