I love this show. I've now seen seasons 4 and 5 and I'm fixin'* on gettin' the rest of these on DVD. I have even pre-ordered season 11, which I've never done with anything else, ever. :)

Does anyone else watch this show? I know Marcus has mentioned that he's seen it, but are there other fans here? Swamp People and the German oddity Adam Looking for Eve are the only things I can bothered watching. Rose and I are both glued to the whole Swamp People thing and ALFE is another one we get a laugh out of (if you Google that one just don't Google it at work....trust me on this).

Anyway it's the personalities, the setting, the whole environment that I love about Swamp People. It's fascinating, and T-Roy and Bigfoot are awesome. My wife has now started doing the whole 'Thunder and lightning, baby' thing with me (and even in public).

I look forward to every season and watch all the spinoff shows. You'll see that they will cut back on the amount of swampers they use but it's still good.

I'll have to track down the spin-offs somehow. I'm not sure if they were aired here but I'd like to see Swamp Mysteries, if only to see Troy, Willie and Ron interacting.

I'm also looking forward to the second season - Liz & Troy in one boat as a team seems like a Marvel Team-Up style thing to me. Two great characters you like appearing together in one comic. :)

The only one I've disliked is that Roger Rivers guy because of how rude he was to his partner, Johny Tenner. Roger does get his comeuppance, though, and apart from that they all seem awesome to me. :)

Okay, the whole series has been deleted on DVD so I have to go on a hunt through the online equivalent of some bargain bins in the very near future to see what I can still get...but I did snag a copy of the season eleven four-disc set today so that'll give Mrs. Simon and I something else to watch. :)

Thunder & Lightning, baby!

We've now seen all of season eleven, and are part of the way through season eight.

I'll be on the lookout for seasons one to three as well as six and seven, as we have the rest. ;)

Season eleven was the first time I'd seen some of the newer swampers - I liked Joey & Zack right away...not sure about those two younger guys; they were likeable enough but sort of full of themselves. It was great seeing Willie's interactions with his son as he taught him how to be a professional alligator hunter. Daniel and Big-T are also extremely entertaining. Of course the Landry family are, as always, extremely entertaining and Troy & Terral are especially hilarious to watch together (as well as being impressively skilled hunters). I'm also impressed by Ronnie and Ashley, who have this odd interaction; they're intriguing to watch, even if Ashley sometimes seems weirdly disorganized when it comes to having her rifle ready. She's an amazing shot, and so are Willie and Big-T.

Interesting seeing the different sides of Daniel Edgar; in season eleven he's so supportive of Big-T and their friendship was extremely enjoyable to watch. Daniel was always quick to praise Big-T and seemed genuinely Fatherly in his manner. He was a Patriarch in the dignified and old-fashioned sense of the term. Seeing Daniel's interactions with his son Dwaine in season eight, though, is a bit nerve-wracking. Both of them seem to annoy the hell out of each other, or maybe Daniel mellows out a bit between seasons eight and eleven (he's getting on in years, after all). Neither one of them comes across well in season eight, and the fact that they're at loggerheads seems to upset even the calm, clear-headed Joey. Joey's awesome, IMO. He and Zack instantly became faves of mine.

I also miss Liz Cavalier - I haven't seen any episodes with Christy yet (although I know she and her husband are in season eight), but Liz was a favourite of mine. The stuff with her and daughter Jessie was so much fun to watch and I loved seeing them hunt together.

Anyway, this has become one of my all-time favourite TV shows. I just love it.

I also noticed that Daniel was more fatherly to Big-T than his own sons, particularly Dwaine. He may have been upset with Dwaine for not coming back to the Swamp after his short baseball career.

Discovery had announced that Swamp People was going to be cancelled after season 6. There was a fan uproar and the series was brought back with a smaller cast. Liz was in tears after being cut out.

Damn. Liz is awesome. I also miss Jeromy and David and Bigfoot and T-Roy, although I noticed (on the back of the DVD) that Troy Landry, R.J and Daniel (I think) go to visit Bigfoot during Texas alligator season (no mention of T-Roy, however).

I enjoy it nonetheless, but I do miss Liz, Bruce, and Glenn.

I love Ashley “Dead Eye” Jones. Just her nickname is great and I do like her tank tops. :D

Yes. The tank tops are well chosen and sturdily constructed. How she's avoided a wardrobe malfunction while putting gators in the boat is a miracle of modern sartorial engineering.

I have not seen this, not being a fan of reality tv, but the Acadians are special people. Proud, hard working and fierce, they are also as insular as Orthodox Jews and the Amish. Plus they call themselves 'coonass', which cracks me up.

Just finished Season 8. Awesome stuff, with Troy and Holden visiting Florida in an attempt to see a 'Nile Croc'. I hadn't known about the hurricane in 1992 that destroyed the reptile breeding facility and released the Tegu, Crocodiles and Pythons that have become invasive species in the Everglades.

Troy also visits some 'Skunk Ape Enthusiasts' at their...headquarters...and looks at an alleged photo of said ape, and the cast of a footprint. It's the episode I really wanted to see, of course...but they don't go looking for the Skunk Ape.

I'm looking forward to Season 9 and the Cajun Cartel. Sounds like it'l be a fun watch. :)

Troy does a snake hunting show in Florida a couple of seasons later. In fact, Discovery has a python hunting show. It’s a big deal in FLA because the Pythons have ruined the Everglades ecosystem.

A lot of pythons and boas were released by people into the Everglades even before the hurricane. Sort of the Florida equivalent of gators in the sewer. Which is oddly apt...

It's a shame because the snakes eat all the wildlife.

This I'll have to see. I enjoyed he and Holden driving around at night basically just seeing what they could see. I know 'Wildman' shows up in Swamp People in later seasons, too.

Admittedly, seeing Troy discussing the Skunk Ape was an epic TV moment for me.

The “Wildman” is the one with his own show, with a team, on Discovery. It’s called the “Guardians of the Glades.

Yes. It puts everything out of kilter. So do outdoor cats. People are stoopid.
