So I haven't been in stores much other than grocery stores since March. This past weekend I was at Walmart and checked out their cd selection. Yes, it hasn't been much for some time and even its peak, didn't compare to music stores, but I still picked up a cd once in a while and these days, there's next to no options for cds in stores.

All that to say, that the maybe quarter or third of a section/media aisle that they had is gone at a local store and all that's left is the end cap...

Vinyl has expanded, but that's not of much use to me.

Have seen the same. Now filled up by Funko pops and stuff. Just like Tower and FYE. Sad.

My local Wal-Mart has an end cap and a few rows in the aisle, that's it.

I was amused to find that they had the collectors edition of the recent Live After Death reissue from Iron Maiden, with the action figure.

It’s hard to believe we were once able to browse in stores like Circuit City, The Wiz, Sam Goody and others to our hearts content with some great sales prices at times. Walmart was the last standing but even they and Target have moved from physical product for quite awhile now.

I used to run over to BestBuy religiously on Tuesday;s for new release day but haven’t done that in years now.

For the last few years Barnes and Noble has been the only retailer to have a semblience of a selection. It has shrunk too.

I haven't been in a B&N since earlier in the year due to the pandemic. I have no idea what the state of their media selection is now and of course the company had been struggling already.

It's not great. My usual store has one row of CDs, and the last 2-3 'columns' are budget-priced. A couple standalone displays of budget CDs, one narrow stand of budget, one narrow stand of new releases (used to be by the register), and one wider stand of new releases. One row of vinyl, a few rows of DVD/BD, and a few stands of DVD/BD. Pitiful compared to what it used to be.

Thank dog for AmazWAN and the intrawebs.

Circuit City carried a lot for a long time, as well.

I remember that. A buddy of mine that ran a local cd shop told me he used to shop there and sometimes got stuff for his store.

But...but...the CD is dying, right?
I mean, nobody wants to buy those things the stores don't carry anymore.
