Neil Young's site mentions that he's been talking with Graham Nash about compiling an expanded/upgraded 50th Anniversary Edition of Deja Vu, which would be released for Christmas season.

Neil did an excellent 192/24 remaster for Pono a few years back. It's still up on NYA, & likely at the other DL retailers.
Of course, if there's new material................

I want to see an official release of the complete 3 night run (aka "The Halverson tapes" that became 4 Way Street. At minimum there are professional 2.0 mixes of all 3 nights; I suspect the multi tracks still exist also as long as they weren't in the Universal fire. I don't think Uni owned WEA that week, but who know.........lol.

"Ohio" would be a good bonus track for Deja Vu. I wonder if there are unreleased studio tracks or demos from the era?

find the cost of freedom
and
horses through a rainstorm (which appeared on the CSN box set

and the long version of 'almost cut my hair (also on the box set)

it has always been said that they spent over 1000 hours in the studio making 'deja vu', and it has always been said that there was a whole of good music left on the cutting room floor.

I just checked. I have a significant amount of live material, but as far as I can tell nothing studio that wasn't mentioned above. For whatever reason, quite a bit of studio out takes from the CSN debut have made it out, but not Deja Vu

they do have a way of keeping things from getting out don't they?

not one single note has seen the light of day form those sessions with rick rubin, not a single fucking note! and i know that at least 4 songs were finished.

Due to the reported level of conflict (artistic differences) between CSN and Rubin, the four (or more) songs may never see the light of day.

It makes one wonder if Neil has the final say on any CSNY releases? If Neil didn't 'talk' about an anniversary edition could it happen? And will Nash work on this reissue and release a new album of his own this year?

and the best part of the whole neil young/deja vu thing is that young only plays and sings on half the album.

To my knowledge, there are more than a few recordings that would be appropriate for a 50-year deluxe edition:

Sea Of Madness (there are studio versions floating around the internet)
Cinnamon Girl (there is a CSNY version)

there may be versions of Bluebird Revisited and So Begins The Task as well

Not to change the subject, but Iron Maiden has their own "Deja Vu" and "Sea Of Madness" songs...and they're both on the same album, 1986's Somewhere In Time.

Not to contradict you, Dr. Evil, but that looks suspiciously like changing the subject to me.

Reports are surfacing that May 14 will be the date for this release.

We shall see.

some news on this:

rumors abound that the set will have 4 CD's AND 1 LP.

there will be no separate set of just CD's and/or 1 LP.

if you want the CD's you MUST buy the set which includes the vinyl. it is still not established as to whether the vinyl will come in album jacket all its own or in a pocket in the set with no album jacket or sleeve or liner notes, so it cannot be sold off individually should one want to. from what i have read rhino has been this of late with these kinds of releases.

price point still to be determined.

the may 14 date that IP says above was mentioned a couple months ago and then removed, so maybe it has been re-instituted, i do not know for sure.

an aside:

'deja vu' is my all time favorite #1 album. i've probably listened to it 500 times. i cannot believe that rhino is going to force this type of package on me. i do not want the vinyl, i do not even have a turntable. adding the vinyl with most likely add $20 - $25 to the price of this package.

it will kill me not have it on opening day, but i simply cannot condone this in my mind, (unless the album comes complete in a gatefold cover with an inner sleeve and sealed in shrink wrap so i can sell it on the used market).

another product i will un-patiently wait for to show up on the used market. :sigh:

i got lucky with neil young's last one, maybe i'll get lucky with this one too.

linda, can you confirm/debunk anything i said above?

Don't you think you can sell the vinyl to someone who is equally uninterested in the CDs?

I did that with the Bowie Ziggy DVD-a + vinyl a few years back. Split the cost with someone here who only wanted the vinyl.
