What do y'all think?

Well, it may be funny - or not, but either way it ain't the Honeymooners....

My problem isn't so much with the 'black' aspect as the 'movie' aspect. "The Honeymooners" relied on the repetition of Ralph's constant failed quest for money that it worked well on a t.v. show, but with a one-shot movie I question if the premise would work nearly as well.

It would work better as a series than as a movie, imo. It took watching a few episodes of the Honeymooners for me to start seeing Kramden as a lovably boyish doofus instead of a completely annoying moron.

For me the show was mostly about the patience and strength Alice demonstrated week after week over Ralph antics. She was as much a mother as a wife to Ralph.

That being said, I don't see where race would be a factor ... unless the director/producer decides to exploit racial stereotypes like having Ralph get slapped around by his mother eveytime he does something stupid. I think that kind of crap would simply kill any chances the movie has of succeeding.

Don't plan on seeing it. I'm probably prejudiced, but remakes like "Mission Impossible", "Charlie's Angels", and, "Starsky & Hutch" have been nothing more than parodies. I expect "Honeymooners", like the upcoming "Dukes of Hazard" and "Six Million Dollar Man" to be more parody.

Is a black "Honeymooners" movie more or less insulting than something like "Blacula"?

Forgive me if I offend, but to me, an "all-black" Honeymooners is no different than an "all asian", "all indian", "all hispanic", "all singing, all dancing" or "all midget" Honeymooners. It's a novelty act and nothing more.

I wasn't insulted by Blacula, but then I'm not black either.

I didn't think of Blacula as racist as much as parodying "the black American stereotype."

Reminds me of an Eddie Murphy comedy stick where he's parodying the average white character in haunted house flicks: Eddie goes


And Eddie's right. In general, in haunted house movies with white characters, they do stick around and get killed stupidly. Or spread out and get killed individually.

I pretty much agree with Bill J. After watching the trailer, you know what, the movie looks kinda funny. However, aside from a few surface similarities like occupations, names, etc., this ain't the Honeymooners!

Poor choice of words on my part. I meant to ask if folks who are generally upset by adaptations that ignore/abuse/betray the source material were more or less upset over this than by "Blacula".
