Is Alex Toth's name pronounced like "both" or "cloth"?

For me, the most important aspect of comic art is storytelling. Toth is excellent at it. Eisner pretty much invented it, and did it better than most of those who came after him. Voted Eisner, and that's two favorites I've had to vote against this round.

Frank, it is pronounced like both. Eisner, hell I knew the guy! He practically created the visual language of comics.

Although I actually did read that story about the man who discovered he could fly. Didn't realize that was Eisner

Never read much of either. Couldn't quite click with the Spirit when my dad showed me the issues way back when. But he was talented, no doubt about that!

My vote seems to be the kiss of death this week.

Grrr. Eisner's tops, and it's hard to vote against him because of what he has meant to medium. I love his work and have since I faithfully, month after month, picked up the Kitchen Sink reprints in the early 80's.

I wasn't exposed to much Toth until a few years ago, mostly through the tothfans website and their page-of-the-day feature. It looks like Toth knew everything Eisner knew and could draw better than anybody! So many less than stellar stories rescued and elevated by the most beautiful art and savvy storytelling.

I'll probably vote Eisner but I'm going to give myself a few days to go back through the Toth archives. Which artist have I enjoyed more? Eisner was a great source of joy in my youth. Toth totally satisfies the more refined eye of the adult comics consumer I've become.

If it were best cartoon designer, it's Alex Toth. He was incomparable in the field. But as good as he was in comics, Eisner was better.
