Was listening to Syd Barrett's solo albums today. I got to thinking what amazing Pink Floyd albums they might have made. Imagine The Madcap Laughs, recorded properly and with a marginally rational Syd in charge, as a followup to The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn.

I don't think the whole album would have worked, but Dream Of The Blue Turtles would have been cool as a Police album, most specifically for "Fortress Around Your Heart." Think Andy's weird guitar noodling in place of Branford's soprano sax.

If Robert Lamm's Subtlety & Passion had been a Chicago album, it would have been one of the band's best in recent memory. Robert did employ many of his current and previous bandmates on the album, making it even easier to imagine a "Chicago-ized" version. The relatively few people who have heard the album know how good it is, and the branding would have given it the increased exposure that the music deserves. On the other hand, Robert deserves the credit for creating and releasing the music that the corporate machine (the band/Rhino/HK Management) could not.

Somewhat on topic: Fish's first solo album Vigil In A Wilderness of Mirrors is a stunning work, but I always wondered if it would have been better if he stayed with Marillion.
When the expanded Marillion 2 cd sets came out a few years back, & Clutching had demos for a few of the songs that ended up on Vigil, I was surprised to discover that Fish's finished solo versions were way better then what the band seemed to have in mind for the songs.

Well obviously Brian Wilson's "Brian Wilson" from '88 would have been a stunning album with the Beach Boys including Carl Wilson.

stills-young band as a CSNY album. we got a taste with the crosby*nash vocals on 'long may you run", but it would have been nice to hear the whole thing with a nash and crosby song or two.

No Jacket Required would have made a half-decent album by Genesis (at least by the Genesis of that era). I think Banks' keyboards would have been more interesting than Collins' own, and Daryl Stuermer had been part of the Genesis touring band for a while at that point. Several songs on that album were more proggy than what wound up on Invisible Touch.

Thanks I'll Eat It Here - Lowell George - would have been nice as Little Feat The Mafia Stole My Guitar - Alex Harvey - it would have been better if the Sensational Band were with him.

I always thought Empty Glass would've made a great Who album.

A bit off-topic, but I've always thought that the best cuts off of those John, Paul, George and Ringo solo albums of the 70's would have sounded great on Beatles albums.

What if 1977's Peter Gabriel had been the next Genesis album instead? (And what would they have titled it?)

Keith Richards's solo albums which in large part sound like good Rolling Stones records but in need of a better singer, as opposed to most of Mick's solo work which in large part sound like bad Rolling Stones records

renny update: we have gotten a second song from 'long may you run" with the crosby*nash vocals, "black coral' which appeared on stills box set.

At least they apparently didn't erase the Crosby/Nash vocals. Maybe our grand children will get to hear it (if they care by then!)

Well he did break down & authorized superb remasters of Deja Vu & Stills-Young so cross your fingers.......

Linda wrote: What if 1977's Peter Gabriel had been the next Genesis album instead? (And what would they have titled it?) I used to think "Solsbury Hill" was a Genesis track when I would hear it on the radio. At that time I didn't own any recordings by Genesis or Gabriel, but I would correct that soon enough.
