i have to say i am surprised at these, if i recall correctly they were not very big sellers when they first come out, and they were easily found in the used bins for few years.
good stuff though, for sure. kind of robin trower-ish without the guitar leads, for those who have never heard.

These are being released by Rhino UK, and in Britain, Rea was a superstar. He had a string of platinum albums, and was nominated multiple times for Brit Awards for Best British Male Artist. Besides, if his albums were easily found in the used bins where you live, well, they had to have been bought new previously to wind up there.

of course they were.
although i really don;t recall seeing them in the new bins that often, other then the best of's.
but they were definitely around for a few years, been a while since i've seen one though.
'aubrge' was the most plentiful for sure.

As mentioned above Rea is huge in Europe, they have good taste. FWIW the original European CDs sound fantastic.

For me, Rea's golden period runs from 1981 to 1991. After that the albums were patchy up to 2000, after which came his blues period.
The five chosen for release match his peak commercially (outside US). Bar Shamrock Diaries which was a breakthrough, the other four were all platinum in the U.K. ( road to hell *6).
I am definitely in for these - although the bonus tracks seem somewhat haphazard at first look. Rea has a complex and deep discography that would require someone dedicated in order for justice to be done to it. Not clear yet which versions of some key tracks are included ( Josephine for example - appears four times but not all on Shamrock Diaries and there are more than four versions in existence).
Alongside these releases is One Fine Day - a lost 1980 album. Limited to 1000 copies, it comes as a cd and vinyl bundle. One of two lost albums from that period...

Good interview about Shamrock Diaries including a story about Josephine that covers police chases, a transvestite bar (as he calls it), Stuff, Chic and Paul Oakenfield.
One Fine Day album.. Only available on cd in a vinyl bundle so I downloaded this. Really like the alt versions of Loving you and Do you still dream. One night with you also good, ( an outtake that he re recorded for Blue guitars.)
