I saw a thread like this on another forum discussing which comic story you have "dipped" the most?
They are always discussing double- and triple-dipping when they buy various collections that repeat
material across them.

It was a fun question for me to think about (others here may as well), and I'm not sure of the answer.

I'm pretty sure that for me it's either Amazing Fantasy #15 or Detective Comics #359.

Apart from the originals, there's everything from special reproduction issues to reduced-in-size booklets
packaged free with gum and/or action figures. I also own some foreign-language versions, and a large
number of hard- and softcover collections of Spider-Man and Batgirl. In the case of Spider-man, AM 15
comes without even trying: it's always there packaged into Treasury editions, Visionary, Best Of…, etc.

Whereas, I made a huge effort over my life to buy copies of DC 359 in every format I ever saw.

Watchmen. I have several versions of it. It's not even my favourite thing ever or anything like that, it's just how things have worked out over the years. :)

I very rarely get duplicates, and then usually by accident because I find something in the fifty-cent bin that I forgot I already had. I think I've bought trades a time or two that contained a little bit of material that I already had in individual issues.

Years ago I found a big hardcover color reprint collection of Carl Barks Duck comics put out by the Abbeville Press in the 1970s. It's a nice collection, but it puts multiple pages' worth of comics on each page, and some of the panels are shrunk from their original publication size. Over the years I've acquired a couple of the stories in single issues. I would get more if I found them cheap. Meanwhile, I'm just glad to have them in any format.

Can't go wrong with Kubert Hawkman.

I think "only" two for me, the originals and an Absolute edition. But it is possible that I bought an early collection
that I just forgot. I guess I also own the movie and the animated pirate story.

Over the years I have definitely snagged more than just a few duplicate copies of comics books
from the bargain bins, mostly by accident but sometimes deliberately, especially if the binned comic
was in better shape than mine. Also, there was the occasional week-to-week accidental purchase of a
modern comic book from the comic shop because I hadn't read it from the week before and the modern
covers were so generic, I just couldn't remember if I had purchased it or not. Sigh…

As for Barks ducks, yeah, I know that I own about five versions of many of the most popular ones from
collections and various repeats. I'm just fine with owning those.

For me and Kirby, it's select Fantastic Four issues. I own some originals, some early Marvel book collections
like Origins of Marvel Comics, all of the various FF and Holiday Treasury Edition repeats, the FF Omnibus book
collections, and a volume 1 FF Masterworks that I got in the "Avengers Mansion" Masterworks collection that I
bought a few years ago. Some of those early FF stories were also reprinted in the various Annuals, Giant-Size,
and in the 60's and 70's repeat books like Marvel's Collector's Items Classics and Marvel's Greatest Comics.

I have at least the limited series. I thought I might have a hardcover collection, but I think I have only
been "tempted" to buy it quite a few times. It was Absolute Justice that I also got the Absolute version
(gained during one of those ridiculously low-priced clearance sales). I'd rather have Kingdom Come.

And I probably own Ross' work on Marvels three times over.

Thanks to picking up Omnibuses over time I have multiples of several Carl Barks and Don Rosa Duck stories, the Dark Phoenix saga, Amazing Fantasy 15, FF #1, and the Ra's Al Ghul saga (probably more, but those stand out to me). As far as the most of any individual story, it's a tie:
Amazing Fantasy 15:
Masterworks softcover
Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus
Amazing Fantasy Omnibus
small format paperback with the story in it

Carl Barks Horseradish story:
TPB including it
Barks Library
Disney comic digest
individual comic with the story (reprint)

The Horseradish story's not a bad one, but I prefer many other Barks Scrooge stories:

I have the Four Color #495 issue and at least one reprint in the Carl Barks Library.

For me, I suspect it's Detective 27. It was reprinted so many times, and included in milestone issues and digests, and Archives, that I'd be hard pressed to count them all. Probably 5-6, though.

there's a fair number of comics where I have both the individual issue, a title specific trade format (Masterworks, Archive, Batman in the 60s, etc) and a few where you could add an artist collection on top of that. But in general, I've always been too cheap to keep rebuying books I own.

The biggest exceptions to that rule - I bought 8 issues in multiple formats on the same day from the same person, picking up both the first Uncanny X-men Masterworks, and the individual issues it covered (93-100) at the same time. Solid investment it was, too.

Ohhh yes, I bet 'Tec 27 is up there with my other ones.

Digest version
Archive version
Oversized reprint
Omnibus version
reprint from 'Tec 726 or something in the late 90s/early 00s.

So that's 5 right there, and makes it number one for me.

Beachy, I too like many other Barks stories more, just happen to have extra copies of the Horseradish story more than others. :)

I suspect Detective #27 is my third most duplicated comic, with Action #1 probably fourth (since I haven't
bought as many Superman collections over the years as I have Batman books).

Oh, crap! I just realized that when my family owned a grocery store, we had a Safeguard soap
give-away comic book display. The offer was to anyone buying (three?) bars of soap, they would
get a free non-glossy paper cover of the first Superman (only) story from Action Comics #1.

Anyway, very few customers actually bought the soap, so my Dad eventually said, "Yeah, we need
the room for something else; throw that display. I did, but I kept well over 150 copies of the give-away
comic, many of which I just passed out during the next several weeks to any of the customers who
had children with them.

Heh, and the last time I looked, the things were listing for $20 in Overstreet. I suspect the price would
go down rapidly if they realized someone was sitting on well over a hundred copies of the thing.

Anyway, so I guess Action Comics #1 is my most duplicated (partial) comic book.

It maybe time to sell a few of those comics, Beachy.
