Yesterday, we went to my favorite pizza place at lunch, partly so I could run to the used vinyl store a few doors down. I was looking for a copy of the Hollies' "Live Hits" - I have it on 8-track, but I missed it on CD, and used copies are going for a few bucks more than I'd like to pay (for a used copy). No luck - decent number of Hollies' LPs, but not the one I wanted.

However, something caught my eye and came home with me - a very clean copy of Zappa In New York from 1977. One of the first Zappa albums I bought (on cassette, and I got Joe's Garage Act I at the same time). I think I still have the cassette, I have the CD, and I have the box set on order, but I still couldn't help myself.

I love it when that happens!

He would love hearing about that you guys!

Jim would be full of childlike glee over his purchases. Once he called me mid “Jimbo Lunch” to ask me if he could spend $400 on the “Pink Floyd:The Early Years” box set. He called cause he knew I’d never say no. And he definitely never cared if they lost value over the years, or if he overpaid. He just thought it was awesome to own these really cool things and soak in all the music. He had no cares about money, the lucky stiff! His estate has even paid for shipping it all down to me and covered the cost of the new shed we needed to help house this amazing collection. “Uncle Jimmy” just as generous now after he left us, as he was before.

It’s just the start of this magical journey through the history of pretty much all of recorded music. All genres starting from the earliest recordings. (Pick up “American Epic”.) Can’t put a price tag on that. Sure to be full of “Wonderous Stories”. I was really Going For The One with that pun.

I can't even remember the last time I was in a record store in these parts. Probably LA and Vegas almost 2 years ago.
Oh yeah, last year on Record Store Day in Athens GA.

A very nice remembrance.

Anything that mentions Jimbo is welcome.

Oddly, in our little town in South Jersey, we have 5 independent record stores within 5 minutes.

Here on LI there really is only decent indie left, Looney Tunes. In my village there is an actual record store but they only sell used vinyl and a very small amount of used CDs. Even Jimbo never went there.

Now NJ has quite a few good record/CD stores such as the Princeton Record Exchange. Jimbo did some damage there one time! :)

I went to Princeton Record Exchange once - because you and Jimbo had been there. I wouldn't have minded more time to dig through things, but my son and I were headed to Red Bank, and then we had to get back to Philly to meet Pete.

We also stoppped there on our way to see Pete in Philly to see Steve Hackett that night. When Jimbo enters a store like that, people step aside and give a little curtsy to the Pope. :)

That's not a big deal. People usually salute me, too, but it involves fingers, not a curtsy.

It kind of happened again today! This time, I hit a store that I usually hit on Record Store Day, but it’s closing this Sunday. That was sooner than I expected, so I suspect I missed a few finds. But I picked up some good stuff today. A promo vinyl single of Roger Daltrey’s “Free Me”. A Prince promo CD. A local band’s CD - Squonk Opera is their name, and it’s from their Broadway show. A nice 25-cent purchase. A best of the Rat Pack CD. The biggies were vinyl versions of Def Leppard’s “Live From Abbey Road” (released on RSD last year), Steven Wilson’s “To The Bone”, and Kate Bush’s “Lionheart”. All sealed, and 30% off (DL was 50% off). Not a bad lunch!

Oh, I’m already a fan. I saw them way back when with the original singer when they did music around “Night Of The Living Dead”.

Again, Jimbo would be proud.

I don't think I can make that on a lunch break.

Yeah, you'd have to take a half day off...at the very least.

Plus, I don't like Chinese food. I'd have to get something on the run.

In China they just call it food. :D

We should start the planning now, a meet in Wuhan China sounds exotic and fun!

We’re gonna have to charter a C-130 to get our CDs home.
