Haven't found any news reports yet, but Hal's friends (including Nancy Sinatra) as posted we lost this legendary drummer this afternoon.

Partial list of his accomplishments

He put the "legend" in legendary. He set the table for all who followed. There will never be another.

RIP, Hal.

Couldn't had said it any better than that Banzaibid. The greatest of them all. Now he and Joe Osborne are together again.

Brian Wilson must be heartbroken.

This is such a heartbreaker. He made every song he played on better. He probably made some of them hits that wouldn't have been without him literally guiding the background tracks. A talented musician and a drummer without compare. So long< Hal and thanks. And now I'm going to go listen to some of those hundreds of those hit tracks of his.

The rhythm of my youth. It was almost harder to find a hit record w/o Hal Blaine than one he played on.

RIP.

From Wiki:
"Hal Blaine Strikes Again" was a rubber stamp used by Blaine to mark music scores and places where he played. Drummer and author Max Weinberg spotted the stamp in Wembley Arena's dressing room while touring with Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band. [6] When asked to explain about the stamp Blaine said, "I always stamp my charts. And there's a reason why I started that; it wasn't all ego." The stamp was used for any piece of music Blaine played on.[6]

Another drummer, Mike Botts, then with the band Bread, recalled: "Every studio I went to in the late sixties, there was a rubber stamp imprint on the wall of the drum booth that said, 'Hal Blaine strikes again.' Hal was getting so many studio dates he actually had a rubber stamp made. He was everywhere!" [7]

He was an absolute giant, and as good anyone that ever played.
Rest In Peace

Here's just a partial list of the singles that Hal Blaine played on. What a resume.

RIP to a legend.

The drum intro to "Be My Baby" is one of the greatest and most distinctive openings of any song.
