Two very good performances by women missing, Toni Collete In Heredity and Siorse Ronan In Mary Queen Of Scots.

For the first time in what seems like ages, I had already seen each of the Best Picture nominees as the Oscar nominations were announced this morning. With the exception of "The Favourite," I really liked all of them, but I’ll be happiest with a win for "A Star Is Born" or "Green Book."

I'm thrilled that Bohemian Rhapsody (my personal favorite movie of the year) got multiple nominations and that Incredibles 2 and Mary Poppins Returns also got some worthwhile nominations as well, but everyone else I either didn't see or never heard of them. It's too bad The Crimes of Grindewald didn't get something for art direction or visual effects or something, but at least 3 movies I really loved this past year got some love from the academy, so that's something.

Normally I couldn't give a crap about new movies, but I definitely want to see Roma and will keep an eye out for Green Book when it hits the cable movie channels.

Also nothing for Clint Eastwood and his movie The Mule which is actually very good.

This thread for years has been known as Oscars 20** so it was hard to find through search but I don't know how to change the subject.

Anyway.….tonight is the night and I have no idea who will win Best Picture. For me its one big tie. I mean even Black Panther could win, who knows?

The acting catergories are a little easier to predict. And best animated movie, even best foreign film (Roma right?).

I just hope it goes smoothly without all the drama from recent years past.

I will be thinking of Jimbo tonight as he loved all this crazy award stuff.

I've fixed Renny's thread title. (Almost hated to do it, since he actually used some capital letters in the original title, which is a rare occurrence for him.)

I guess we could have started a new one for tonight as the nominations are now over and its time to declare the winners!

Watched Roma last night.

In my humble opinion, Alfonso Cuarón is the greatest living director.

So far a good night for Roma and Bohemian Rhapsody. No surprises in the acting categories.

Big win for Rami Malek, "Bohemian Rhapsody"! I thought Christian Bale was awesome in Vice but you can't deny that Rami did one hell of a job.

I am a but surprised that Green Book is your winner tonight, it was a movie that ran under the radar compared to the others. But it and leading actor in a supporting role Mahershala Ali, "Green Book" had one hell of a night.

And just like the Grammy's (with all the CDs he bought), when they do the Memorial part I thought that Jimbo should have been up there considering the 100+ movies he saw every year!

Until this morning I had never heard of Green Book. I at least was aware of all the rest of the nominees and had seen a few of them.

I also missed it at the movies due to MoviePass having its problems. Comes on Blu in 2 weeks.

I thought I was the only one. Apparently I am meant to be quite outraged about it.

I'm thrilled that Rami Malek won Best Actor since he so completely embodied the look and feel of Freddie Mercury I swear Freddie had come back from the dead to star in his own movie. And since Bohemian Rhapsody had completely awesome sound throughout I'm thrilled it won the Sound awards too. I have no interest in seeing Into the Spiderverse since the previews for it made it look and seem dumb but I'm completely bummed Incredibles 2 didn't win Best Animated Feature. I thought it was ten times better than the original ever was and is one of the greatest Pixar films period, just being slightly below Ratatouille, Brave, Inside Out, and Finding Dory, but oh well, at least it made 600 million+ at the box office, so that's nothing to sneeze at, and at least the adorable cute short before it won something. The only other movie I had seen or want to see was Mary Poppins Returns, and sadly it got beaten out every time it was up for an award, but all in all I thought the Oscar's were pretty good this year, with the biggest applause from me going to the richly deserving Bohemian Rhapsody.

btw...Into the Spiderverse is one of the best movies of the year let alone an animated one, it really is a must see!

Who knows, maybe if Into the Spiderverse shows up on tv down the road I'll try and watch it. I just know for me I've never been that much of a comic-book fan in general. I love the first 3 Spiderman movies with Tobey Maguire and enjoy parts of some Batman movies, Danny DeVito's Penguin being my favorite part of any of them, but I tried watching 2017's Spiderman: Homecoming and thought it stunk with way too much Iron Man junk in it and not nearly enough actual Spiderman, but that's about it I think. I've also seen Batman Begins and The Dark Knight and some of The Dark Knight Rises, but didn't really care for either of them, so who knows.

I was happy to see Rami Malek win for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury. I saw three of the nominees for Best Animated Feature Film (Incredibles 2, Isle of Dogs, and Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse). Of those three, I thought Spider-Man was the best, and deserved the win (Isle Of Dogs would have been my 2nd choice). Haven’t seen Green Book yet, though it is on my radar. I’ll either catch it at the discount theatre, or when it comes out on video.
