I think reboots are a good thing depending on recency. Right now, just about all the major Marvel and DC superheroes have had an origin film recent enough that they don't need a reboot.
Hopefully, everyone learned their lesson from Amazing Spider-Man, which felt really redundant considering how recently it was made after Raimi's Spider-Man was. No matter how you feel about the final product, I thought Man of Steel was warranted because the last origin film was in 1978 -- that's long enough to tell the story again.

The key time is when you recast -- if the movies are still going, and you've had a change of director and actor, but it's only been a couple years, don't reboot. (You can periodically review origin by flashback).
As you say, Amazing Spider-man was a classic example where they should have gone no-reboot. This coming one (Homecoming) is a classic example where they got the decision right -- just roll with it.
What I don't want to see is when one of the current Marvel heroes is recast (like RDJ), that they reboot. Need to just keep rolling.

I think the advantage there is that this is a shared universe, so they'd have to reboot ALL of the franchises to keep the continuity intact. So if RDJ walks but Chris Evans, Chris Pratt, Hemsworth, etc. are all still on board, they'd be nuts to reboot the entire thing.
The time to have done a reboot is when they recast Rhodey.

You speak as if we didn't have ten years of perfection telling that exact same story.
But seriously, as much as I hated and loathed Man of Steel, no one was more excited for it before it came out than me, and I loved that it was going to be a modern retelling of the Superman origin.

Warner Bros. has now officially scheduled June 25, 2021 as the release date of The Batman. In response to the announcement, Ben Affleck tweeted this congratulatory message (which also seems to confirm his departure from the movie):
Quote:
Excited for #TheBatman in Summer 2021 and to see @MattReevesLA vision come to life.
Can't say I'm sad to see Affleck gone, as I didn't think he was a good Batman. He tried, but I just don't think he's a good actor in general.
I was intrigued by him directing a Bat-Flick, but hopefully this new incarnation will disregard the Snyder-Verse interpretation of the character and carve out a new niche for the character.
Focusing on the detective and making a noir style film sounds perfect for Batman. Now if they have success, if only they don't decide it would also be perfect to relaunch Superman that way.
