The original UK mix of this record absolutely destroys the Keith Olsen remix for the USA, and it's not even close. One would think that one of the discs in the super deluxe would have to be the original mix and song order.

I'm fine with my 2 CD version from a few years ago.
I would like the Glasgow show that's on this box set, but I'd listen to it once.
The original mix is timid and dull.
The US mix is too beefy and Metal.
Somewhere in-between is what I like, but I lean towards the UK mix.
The US mix has Sykes, Murray and Cuomo where the UK mix has Moody, Hodgkinson and Lord (although most of Lord's work was kept on the US mix, Cuomo added cheesy new parts)/
I do like both versions, but it was here where they were starting to change and it's the 1978-83 band I love and not the latter.

I spent over 25 years hearing the US mix, so the UK mix -- not to mention the track sequence -- sounds weird to me.
Why wouldn't you start off an album like Slide It In with the title track??

If you're not nice
Full release details are now in the first post. The giant 6CD/1DVD Ultimate Edition box set contains everything and then some; the humble 2CD Deluxe Edition set contains the original UK and US mixes of the album along with some bonus tracks.

Easy, because Gambler doesn't fit in the middle of the record IMO. Back before I was even aware of the UK mix, I didn't really like the song and it seemed odd to close off side one (yep, back in the days of vinyl). When someone walked into the record shop I worked at with a UK copy of the vinyl (I'm guessing somewhere around 1989), I jumped on it and immediately realized the brilliance of Gambler when it led off the album. I also love the way Slow an' Easy just rips the listener when leading off side two.
UK version just smokes the American version, which is saying something because the American version is still a damn fine listen. This really is a great album and Whitesnake's finest IMO, and I liked pretty much all of Whitesnake until it got to Slip of the Tongue which was a major disappointment (because I was a huge Adrian Vandenberg fan at the time).

I thought that old "deluxe version" only had something like 7 of the UK mixes on it and not the full album. I could be wrong about that though because I didn't get it. I still have my copy of the UK vinyl and a UK copy of the CD (one of the quietest CDs in my collection).
For those that don't have the original UK mix in the collection, the 2 CD version of this is an absolute no-brainer purchase. It would be hard to mess up the enjoyment of the UK mix even with bad mastering because that version is so damn good it's just ridiculous.

LOL at Humble Edition... the next great music industry marketing ploy!

And it must have been even more disappointing when you found out that Adrian's "hand injury" that prevented him from playing was revealed to be a cover story for the fact that either Coverdale or the label didn't want him to play on the album.

Me and my big mouth. So what do they do, put the original UK mix on here but then rearrange the running order of the songs. Impossible to fuck it up, and somehow they manage to do it. They also rearranged the song order of the US remix. Since there is a 2019 remix of all the songs in the deluxe box set, it seems the completely obvious, no-brainer thing to do would be to put the original UK mix in the original UK running order, the USA remix in the original USA running order, and then play with the running order of the 2019 remixes to make a new "2019 version" of the album.
I can understand various song sequencing that happened with the 1987 album because that one was messed up from day one when Coverdale decided to do the re-records of Crying in the Rain and Here I Go Again. But there is really no reason for this debacle with Slide It In.
I swear that at times it seems like the record industry can't get anything right.
EDIT - And apparently I cannot do anything right either after typo-ing 1984 when referring to the 1987 album. But I'll use the excuse that I was all out-of-sorts when seeing what Rhino did to the original UK song order. And no, I wasn't thinking about Orwell or Van Halen.

Well, they did the same thing with the '87 remaster a couple years ago. I never paid attention to the track list until I was on the road and popped it in. I was like, "WTF?" when I heard it. Then I looked at the packaging, and yep, it was all rearranged. But whatever. It's the same songs in different order. If I get anal enough, I can always make a copy with the song order that I want.

The 1987 remaster on the box set followed the UK running order.
It can be resequenced in iTunes to follow the original American sequence.

The 1987 deluxe didn't follow the UK song order either.
Original UK vinyl
Side One: 1. Still of the Night 2. Bad Boys 3. Give Me All Your Love 4. Looking for Love
Side Two: 1. Crying In the Rain 2. Is This Love 3. Straight For the Heart 4. Don't Turn Away 5. Children of the Night
Whitesnake 1987 - the special JosephC's ipod edition track listing: 1. Still of the Night 2. Bad Boys 3. Give Me All Your Love 4. Looking for Love 5. Crying In the Rain 6. Is This Love 7. Straight For the Heart 8. Don't Turn Away 9. Children of the Night 10. Here I Go Again 11. You're Gonna Break My Heart Again 12. Need Your Love So Bad (Remix) 13. Here I Go Again (New Version) 14. Standing in the Shadows (Remix)
Jumbling the song order on the 1987 deluxe seemed like a reasonable enough thing to do because there was one mix but song order (and song inclusion) was different depending on the territory. But to have three completely different mixes here and then ignore the original song orders for the UK and US seems pretty foolish. Keep those as is and do the 2019 song rearrangement along with the new 2019 remixes.
