Tony Palmer is running a Pledge Music campaign to get Zappa's 200 Motels film available on a 2 DVD set, as well as the 2 CD soundtrack set as originally issued by Ryko in 1997. There are various packages available- an all-inclusive box set, just CD, just DVD, T-shirts, and it seems all will be autographed by Tony Palmer (is that a selling point? Yeah I have been looking at this for several days. 200 Motels is kind on stuck in limbo, under of who has the rights. It was released on cd by Ryco decades ago but quickly withdrawn. The dvd has been out a few times...once was Tony Palmer’s version. That might be this again. I am interested in the dvd the second disc. I am leaning towards the 2 disc dvd. No one knows nothing about this at Zappateers or Zappa.com. Any info anyone has would be very helpful.

The track listing of the CD appears to be identical to the one released by Ryko, which I have. I also have the movie on a DVD released last year from MVD, and it seems fine. I mean, for me, the film doesn't have a lot of replay value. It's a mess. So, like you, the second disc of the DVD would be the only selling point for me. And I'm sure I am not as big a Zappa fan as you are, so I will probably skip this unless it turns out to have full live performances or something. But I don't imagine Palmer could release that sort of thing without the permission of the Zappa Family Trust, and if that was the case, I think their name and logo would be all over this. So I think I'll sit this release out, but I thought I'd post it here since I know a lot of people on ICE like Zappa.

I think it was recorded on early video tape, so I'm not sure high def would help very much.

The tunes in the movie where played live on the movie set. I am hoping for some other tunes that were played there. However since Martin Lickert was really a walk on...I am unsure if there are any others. Perhaps rehearsals...orchestra performances or out takes. I have to go for the dvd.
