by far and away one of the most under-rated and under-appreciated artists ever.

i did a search and we have discussed very little of him over the years.

from linda ronstadt's band to solo to 10cc to wax to bryndle and some other very interesting projects (his copy cat album covers the beatles spot on).

if all you know about gold is 'lonely boy' get on the internet and check him out....i think many of you, knowing your tastes, will be pleasantly surprised at what you hear.

I agree with you 100%, Renny. I'm a huge fan of his early solo albums and especially of the three LPs with Wax. Wax's "Bridge to Your Heart" is one of my all-time favorites — there are few songs that give me such pure and instant happiness. Though Gold's contributions to our beloved 10cc are modest, "Ready to Go Home" ranks among the band's best, IMO. Such a beautiful song.

I'm very sorry that I only got to see Gold in concert once, opening for the Eagles, in Nov. 1979. His set was terrific. Like you, I'd encourage others to look past the radio staples and dig more deeply into his catalog of work. There is so much there to love.

the bryndle albums are very good too, although gold only appears on 'house of silence' on a couple of songs and he doesn't play the live bryndle album at all.

there are also a couple of real nice covers out there, albeit difficult to find:

renaissance fair ( the crosby/mcguinn song) - gold solo

bluebird (the stills song) - by byrds of a feather

One Andrew Gold cd that's worth tracking down is The Fraternal Order Of The All Greetings From Planet Love[the majority of the instruments and vocals were done by Andrew Gold with some help by Graham Gouldman].

All I can is: to this day, his "Lonely Boy" still tortures me, as I still can't figure out the '1' beat. After all these decades, ugh...

Absolutely! This album has the best fake-60's music since The Dukes of Stratosphear, which inspired it. I don't want to give too much away but one track imagines what a Dylan/Beatles combo might have sounded like and it's brilliant. Highly recommended.
