The second release in the Owsley Stanley Foundation's Bear's Sonic Journals series is due out in August:

Image

Description
Bear’s Sonic Journals: Allman Brothers Band, Fillmore East February 1970 presents restored and mastered recordings of the Allman Brothers Band at the Fillmore East on February 11, 13 & 14, 1970, captured by legendary Grateful Dead soundman, Owsley Stanley, a/k/a Bear, who is known for the purity of his “Sonic Journal” recordings and their uncanny ability to place the listener in the venue.

This is essential listening for Allman Brothers Band fans, showcasing an early incarnation of the band with Duane Allman in full form and featuring the earliest known live concert recording of “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed,” which had just been penned by Dickey Betts shortly before these shows. The tapes were recorded just one year before the band’s landmark At Fillmore East album from the same venue.

Long out-of-print, these recordings was transferred and remastered from the original tapes in Owsley Stanley’s archives, and includes all new album art and liner notes, including a series of rare band photos from the Fillmore East in February 1970, original cover artwork (“Electric Mushroom”), and new notes from the Allman Brothers Band and the Owsley Stanley Foundation. This is the second release in the award-winning “Bear’s Sonic Journals” series and the first joint presentation by the Allman Brothers Band and the Owsley Stanley Foundation.

Tracklist
1. In Memory of Elizabeth Reed
2. Hoochie Coochie Man
3. Statesboro Blues
4. Trouble No More
5. Outskirts of Town
6. Whipping Post
7. Mountain Jam

Mr. Levenson was not involved. This is coming direct from Owsley's label:

You will also be able to download each individual show from the OSF. The CD is a compilation of all three nights. Also, for $400 you can choose which show gets archived next, which I can only assume will increase its chances of being officially released.

It's also coming on open reel tape, no price yet, but I imagine about $450.

There is an expanded 24 bit version of this that's only available from Acoustic sounds as a download. My understanding is the expanded tracks are mostly or all partial songs where the tape ran out during recording. I've heard the cd; it's ok, but doesn't hold a candle to Fillmore 1971 imo.

Hahaha, indeed. I downloaded these the first moment they were available. Very enjoyable.

How incomplete is the incomplete stuff?

It's not too bad. Sort of like what happens to Stormy Monday in the American University release...just stopping. I didn't find it as frustrating as the AU show though (that solo is so good and it's almost heartbreaking when it stops.).

Picked this up. Sounds great.

Interesting to hear them one year before the classic Fillmore shows.

They are releasing all three nights as a deluxe CD package, rather than merely downloads:

https://owsleystanleyfoundation.org/pro ... e-edition/

Description
The Allman Brothers Band, Fillmore East, February 1970, DELUXE EDITION

You asked for it, so here it is! The Owsley Stanley Foundation & the Allman Brothers Band are pleased to present Bear’s complete recordings of the Allman Brothers Band at the Fillmore East in February 1970 in CD format. Available only on our website and at the Big House Museum, this Deluxe Edition, 3-CD set will include the already-released compilation CD along with 2 CDs of the source material from all three nights — the complete set of Bear’s Sonic Journals from each show as played on February 11, 13, & 14, 1970, including all three complete versions of the earliest known live concert recordings of “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.” We also expanded the booklet to include more photos from these historic nights, taken by Bear’s good friend, Amalie Rothschild. The photos include an extremely rare shot of Bear in the soundbooth, up in the balcony overlooking the stage.

Important Note: These recordings were not previously released on CD in their entirety because they contain significant flaws, primarily due to reel changes in the middle of songs. We released them last summer as high resolution downloads, but many of our listeners preferred to have a physical copy. We get it; we’re the same way. Moreover, it was Bear’s wish that these recordings (especially February 14) be released in whole because they are sonically pure and include important, previously unreleased material of the band with Duane in his prime. So now, with the blessing of the Allman Brothers Band, we are pleased to make them available for the first time on CD in limited-edition, numbered copies.

Track Listing
CD 1: The Compilation CD
1. In Memory of Elizabeth Reed
2. Hoochie Coochie Man
3. Statesboro Blues
4. Trouble No More
5. Outskirts of Town
6. Whipping Post
7. Mountain Jam

CD 2:
February 11, 1970
1. In Memory of Elizabeth Reed
2. Statesboro Blues
3. Trouble No More
4. Hoochie Coochie Man
5. Mountain Jam (Incomplete)
February 13, 1970
1. In Memory of Elizabeth Reed
2. Outskirts of Town (Cut)
3. Mountain Jam (Incomplete)

CD 3: February 14, 1970
1. In Memory of Elizabeth Reed
2. Hoochie Coochie Man
3. Outskirts of Town (Incomplete)
4. Whipping Post
5. Mountain Jam (Incomplete)

Bought! Happy they put this out on cd finally despite the issues but would have preferred they scrapped the “compilation” and just put each date on 1 cd each instead.

Never mind. I did some more investigating and discs 2 and 3 do exactly what I wanted. Only 2 discs because one of the reels is missing from night 2 so it all fits on 2 cds. So we get the raw songs (much of which is missing) AND the original “compilation (disc 1) which has some songs edited together from multiple nights due to the reel changes. This is the best if both worlds.
