Steve Perry Reveals Plans for New Solo Album By Jeff Giles December 11, 2015
Steve Perry has spent most of 2015 working on his first solo album in more than 20 years.
The former Journey vocalist shared the news during a call-in to the Mark in the Morning show on KSWD-FM in Los Angeles (via Melodic Rock), during which Perry — who was phoning to wish radio personality “Uncle” Joe Benson a happy birthday — fielded a few questions about his future plans.
“I’m in the studio,” Perry said when asked what he’s been up to lately. “You know, actually, I started — there’s been so many rumors going around that I’m in the studio, that I’ve been there for years. The truth is, I finally went into the studio in March, and I’ve been in there ever since, just trying to finish this record.”
As Perry noted, there’s really never any shortage of rumors regarding his current activities, and given that he hasn’t released a solo record since 1994’s For the Love of Strange Medicine, it would probably be wise not to hold one’s breath while waiting for the new album to appear. Still, even though he stopped short of making any promises in terms of a release date, Perry seemed optimistic that he’d have it out soon.
“I’ve asked myself that today,” joked Perry when asked when he expected to finish the new album. “I’m looking forward to finishing it, put it that way. I want to get it done probably in the early part of this coming year.”

It will be interesting. While I'm right behind Renny on the "I don't particularly like Journey without Perry" bandwagon; I also don't particularly like Perry solo either. I have heard all the Perry solo albums, & I currently don't own any.
I guess for me, Journey has been 3 different bands:
1. Pre-Perry: An ok classic prog band that I'll likely never play again.
2. Perry glory years: FOR ME; there are 2 essentials here: the original non brickwalled version of Greatest Hits & Captured. That's really all I really need, though I have a couple more. This version of Journey was very much a singles band for me.
3. Post Perry: Does nothing for me, despite some great musicians being involved.
I guess as far as mainstream rock my fav years in general are from around 1965-1974; though there is a lot I like outside of that time period (& especially out of the mainstream rock genre in other time periods). Feels kind of pathetic (me, not the music!)............

Former Journey Singer Steve Perry Preps 'Cathartic' New Solo LP
Former Journey frontman Steve Perry is planning to release a "cathartic" new solo LP in 2017. In a recent interview, the singer described the album, his first in over two decades, as an "emotional expression" of losing a loved one.
"I met someone, and I fell in love with this person," Perry told ABC Radio. "And I lost this person to breast cancer four years ago. In the midst of that, I had written some songs, and before I met her I had sketched some. And so about a year ago, I started recording."
The as-yet-untitled record will be Perry's third proper studio work – and first since 1994's For the Love of Strange Medicine. The "Oh Sherrie" singer said it's been "real cathartic" touching on emotions he never expected to revisit. "And we really have been doing our very best to capture what I think are some timeless songs," he said.

Just like anything that's called "Collectible" really isn't ever actually going to be collectible, someone who thinks that they have some timeless songs is likely wrong. I wish Steve the best and hope this is good, but I could do without the hyperbole.

you certainly hit the nail on the head.
the word collectible on anything immediately tells me that it is not.
remember the garth brooks "hits" CD.......they were going for upwards of $20 - $25 used, now they are $5.
and there have been many many others.
