Description
America is a British-American rock band formed in England in 1970 by Dewey Bunnell, Dan Peek, and Gerry Beckley. Achieving significant popularity in the 1970s, the trio was famous for their close vocal harmonies and light acoustic folk rock sound. Their debut 1971 album, America, included the transatlantic hits "A Horse with No Name" and "I Need You". America's Greatest Hits, a compilation of hit singles, was certified multi-platinum in the United States and Australia. Peek left the group in 1977, and their commercial fortunes declined, despite a brief return to the top in 1982 with the single "You Can Do Magic". The group continues to record material and tour with regularity. Their 2007 album Here & Now was a collaboration with a new generation of musicians who credited the band as an influence. America won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist at the 15th Annual Grammy Awards. The group has been inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Reviews of the original release reveal that ten of these tracks are re-recordings of the original hits. This collection came out in 2011 with the typical patchy distribution by CD Baby, where some copies were factory-pressed and others were burned CD-Rs. The new pressing in the first post will be coming out in full general release and will be all real, aluminum CDs. But still, it's probably for America completists only.

Even their original greatest hits release, History (by far their most popular album), featured remixed versions of most of the songs. It's actually hard to get the original hits by America on a comp.

The mixes on History are so ingrained in my head after 40 years, they are the definitive mixes for me.

Me too. I don't know that I've heard the original mixes since the early 70s.

wait... I'm confused... I don't see Richard Carpenter's name anywhere in the credits.
