"Hocus Pocus" by Focus (Okay, there IS yodeling. I think that it still counts as an instrumental, though, doesn't it?)

I like just about anything by the Ventures. Walk, Don't Run, Hawaii Five-0, their covers of Telstar, the Lonely Bull, Apache, Wipeout and Tequilla, 'sall good. No wonder they're big in Japan.

I also like the Shadows quite a bit, most notably FBI. And their lead guitarist has a cool first name.

And before Frank beats me to them, the Beatles didn't do that many instrumentals, but both Cry For A Shadow and Flying are great tunes.

ETA: Oh, and Marshall Crenshaw's done some amazing instrumentals on his last couple of albums. He's an insanely underrated guitarist.

Fire on High is a favorite of mine.

Genesis has a bunch, of course, but less in the Phil Collins era, of which I am a fan. But I quite enjoy "The Brazilian."

I love Billy Joel's "Nocturne," but that's purely piano and probably not what we're looking for here.

Parts I and III of Toto's "A Better World." Great instrumental, great showing of technical prowess.

I'm listening to it as I type this. Memories of 1984. Ahhhh.

Gary Hoey's cover of the above is all instrumental ( guitar. ) The "yodeling" riffs are played on a guitar as well ( from the CD <I>Animal Magnetism</I> ).

All of Hoey's covers are all instrumental. He's done really good covers of Low Rider, Wipeout, Rattle and Stomp (with Dick Dale), and the Peanuts song Linus and Lucy.

I wish I had CD's of all of the songs you guys are mentioning.

I have a Ventures CD that collects a bunch of TV themes that they were either involved with or that they covered ( Hawaii Five O, Green Hornet, Mission Impossible, Star Trek [ kind of a disco feel ], theme from S.W.A.T. ... )

...and I'd just like to add Stevie Ray Vaughan's versions of Rude Mood and Pipeline.
