ted262 wrote: Hmmmmm wonder if these are new remasters. They are. I have the previous ones from the band's own label and they were pretty good, but not great. The A&M box set was handled by Andy Pearce and sounded much better than the previous ones. I believe Jon Astley will be handling these, and I like most of his work (unlike others), but sometimes he does tend to be too loud with his work. I don't know if these will have any bonus tracks. I hope they do the rest of the albums. When I interviewed Dave Meniketti for my book (and it was a very long interview), he told me that the Geffen albums would cost a fortune for them to remaster due to the label asking unreasonable amounts, but I'd like to see those get done one day. The A&M years are so awesome and this band is absolutely fantastic, so anybody curious about the band should get the A&M box or these new ones.

Good deal. Went and saw Dave and the boys a few months ago, and he's still got it - even at his age. Voice and fingers in find shape.

Not totally brickwalled but very loud. I'd only recommend it to a listener that didn't really care about sound quality and just wanted to score these albums at the lowest price.

I thought these were too soft sounding and that the band's remasters were a little too loud.
Proof that nobody hears things exactly the same.
if you though the box was loud, you will most likely despise what Jon Astley does with these.

I never did get them all on CD (the A&M stuff), so I'll wait for the consensus on these before I decide which to get.

I'd go with Earthshaker and Black Tiger first.
Mean Streak and is good, but a little bit of a rehash of Black Tiger.

Mean Streak and is good, but a little bit of a rehash of Black Tiger. Thanks Ted! Pete? Exactly what Ted said. My interview with Dave Meniketti was so long, and we did focus on those first two albums (not counting the two Yesterday and Today albums which are OK, but just a start) so much. Both Mean Streak and In Rock We trust saw the band getting more commercial, but those were still good albums (and not surprisingly their biggest sellers). And yes, their name is from the Beatles album! I was lucky to see Y&T in Philly in 1984 at the Spectrum and they were great, but that damn robot...

ted262 wrote: Bonus track on both Black Tiger a Meanstreak. Yeah, those are both newly finished versions of older songs never completed. These both appear on the remasters the band did themselves. The songs are good but you can tell it's newly recorded because the vocals and keys are not the same at all.
