I really like the cartoon, so I decided to give the comics a shot.
I've been reading the earliest appearances. Near as i can figure, the Legion was originally founded for the sake of going back in time to be jerks to Superboy and Supergirl. It's pretty funny.

I'd recommend the standard Shooter thru Levitz issues, and the Sprouse-drawn Legionairres (in both their own series and the 'five years later' issues of LoSH).

Thank God somebody at DC recognizes the real Legion, although what is the deal with Dawnstar's wings? No wonder she flies outside the cruiser. She can't fit inside.

Why doesn't Wildfire's name appear on the platform?

Ah, but it does appear on the platform - look closely.

It doesn't appear underneath the second statue of Wildfire.

You know, I couldn't give a rat's ass about the original origin of the Legion before now, but those pages with Superman reminiscing actually made me fall in love with it. I'm officially nostalgic for something I've never read.

And now I'm thinking how cool it'd be to have a Legion book coming out now guest starring "Superboy" based on that continuity. It's time travel, so there's no reason it couldn't work.

I'm not seeing whatever you guys are talking about. In that front tier of statues, Phantom Girl's is the last name to be printed on the platform. Wildfire is standing there with no name under his statue.
What am I missing?

There is another Wildfire statue on the second row between Invisible Kid I and Timber Wolf, and he is named behind Saturn Girl's and Sun Boy's feet. The artist drew Wildfire twice.

I now see that...but I don't see the word "Wildfire" on the second tier, either.

Going by the fact that they got the first Invisible Kid and Karate Kid as well as Ferro Lad, who were dead in the Levitz era, I'm wondering if this Legion is actually the "cloned" kid Legion from the Giffen 5YL Legion/Legionnaires era.

Post IC is a whole new continuity. This is the original Legion. No clones or pocket universes or anything.
And no more reading this thread for me, as I'm working my way through the Legion's early years and what's old hat to folks who already know them is new to me.
