I'm guessing the three albums, and two discs of the demos from the box set. I hope I'm wrong, and we see something new, like some live stuff.

I'll be getting this for the mono mix of Buffalo Springfield Again.

It's just the three albums, with the first two in both mono and stereo mixes.

I'm in for the Mono mixes as well.

looking at the tracklist above i see that both the first and second album are presented in both mono and stereo.

on this set, 'baby don't scold me' was left off of the stereo mix and 'for what it's worth' was added to the mono mix. i am not sure if that is how it originally went down. i know that upon initial release 'for what it's worth' was NOT on the first album. (it was quite collectible back in the day) once it became a hit it was added and, and here is where i am not 100%, 'baby don;t scold me' was removed. i don't think that you could ever get both songs on any variation of the album back then. again, not 100% on this.

on the box set there were a couple of songs left off from 'last time around', i see above that all the songs from the album are there.(maybe young made up with messina)

also, there are NO UNRELEASED TRACKS from the box set anywhere to be found on this. the box set had a ton of, very good, unreleased songs.


so, to summarize the box set from wikipedia:

Buffalo Springfield is a career retrospective album by the 1960s folk rock band of the same name, released in 2001. Band member Neil Young assembled the tracks in chronological order to show how the band evolved and disintegrated in the span of two years, as encompassed through the first three of four CDs, while the fourth disc contains the band's first two albums, all but two tracks of which had already appeared in identical versions elsewhere on the first three discs. It reached #194 on Billboard's Top 200 Album chart, and stayed on the chart for the single week.

The set omits the stereo version of the Buffalo Springfield album, the mono version of Buffalo Springfield Again, the album versions of "On the Way Home", "Pretty Girl Why", and "Four Days Gone" from Last Time Around, and the songs "Carefree Country Day" and "In the Hour of Not Quite Rain" from Last Time Around. It also lacks the long version of "Bluebird", only ever issued on the band's self-titled 2-LP compilation, Buffalo Springfield, released in 1973.

I THINK I'm going to stick with the HDCD box set unless this comes out in hi-res (a couple of the albums already have)

So we will have two box sets that aren't complete? Why not add a sixth disc here and make it comprehensive?

If it's reasonably priced, I'd get it, but it's a little lacking.

When I interviewed Richie Furay he told me there's nothing left in the vaults, so it seems the old box set and scattered comps have what's out there and it's a shame they're not all in one place now.

The UK pricing looks fair, but I really don't need this.

just guessing, but i'd have to say no, based on few things.

He hasn't mentioned this box among all the vault things he's been unearthing and talking about lately.

Why is the stereo version of "Baby Don't Scold Me" omitted? And, yes, it exists. I have a needledrop of it.

The one thing that's left that would have made this a no-brainer for me is the long "Bluebird". That'll never happen though. Too bad.

I have a needle drop of the long Bluebird that someone was kind to share with me a few years ago. While I had heard it many years ago; what I didn't realize is today I really prefer the short version. For me, the song changes too much during the hard rock jam.

Would I buy an official digital release of the long version? Probably. Do I really want or need it? No.

he must have made peace with jimmy messina...........as 'carefree country day' was left off of the springfield box set, because neil felt it to be a messina solo song, and when stills and furay wanted messina in the springfield reunion, young nixed it.

i wonder why they didn't just do a 6th disc of all the unreleased stuff that was on the box set???? then you would have the 'complete' buffalo springfield (except for the long bluebird)

Love the Springfield, but I'm happy with the 3 CD's I have.

This comp deserves a better cover than that. It screams "budget comp" to me.

Well, price wise it is somewhat budget (but that just makes it a good value for those who need it!)
