Fear Inoculum is the long awaited new album from TOOL, and the band's first new album in 13 years. The album will be available in a special Limited Edition physical package that includes a CD in a tri-fold Soft Pack Video Brochure featuring a 4" HD rechargeable screen with exclusive video footage, a USB charging cable, a 2 watt speaker and a 36 page insert book and MP3 download card. Tool members include drummer Danny Carey, guitarist Adam Jones, bassist Justin Chancellor and vocalist Maynard James Keenan. To date, Tool has released four studio albums, one EP, and one box set. Formed in 1990 in Los Angeles, California Tool emerged with a heavy metal sound on their first studio album, Undertow in 1993. Later, Tool became a dominant act in the alternative metal movement with the release of its follow-up album Ænima in 1996. The band's efforts to unify musical experimentation, visual arts, and a message of personal evolution continued with the release of Lateralus in 2001, and 10,000 Days in 2006 - gaining Tool critical acclaim, and commercial success around the world. Tool has won three Grammy Awards, performed worldwide tours, and produced albums topping the charts in several countries.

Tool will be running a music clinic in various cities during May. The promo video for their music clinic tour includes what might be a proper studio version of "Descending", which they've been playing at their live shows for a few years:

Bump: The album is going to be titled Fear Inoculum. They still haven't announced the tracklist or shown the cover art yet.

Now there are some reports that the album is 85 minutes. Listings are indicating only 1 CD. I didn't know CDs were up to an 85 minute capacity? I hope everyone's lasers are perfectly aligned.

Reports had 7 songs, but Amazon listings are up to "Track 10." So I'm assuming there are 7 songs and then several musical interludes.

A limited edition CD with a 4" HD rechargeable screen has been listed at Amazon with a $45 price tag. Downloads also available for pre-order. Vinyl version pre-orders are coming but not yet posted. Also, no word on a cheaper CD version but the current version is listed as a limited edition...so would have to assume a cheaper CD version is on the way.

As rumored previously, there are separate tracklists for the physical and digital versions of the album. Early reviews describe the digital-only tracks as "interludes", with an emphasis on synths and ambient noises.

Ridiculous. Charge $45 for a HD screen...but can't raise the price a couple bucks to make this a 2 CD package so buyers can have ALL the material on CD.

Bet the vinyl version will have ALL the material....of course on two pieces of vinyl with a price tag of $50.

Nice that they release the HD screen for probably about the same amount that the vinyl will cost. We see what they are doing here. Trying to make a $50 double vinyl album look like a bargain when it is not.

So I'll buy the CD and then use the included download key to get ALL the material. Then I will burn a 2 CD copy and then listen to that one and ignore the pressed CD because it is incomplete. Then I will wonder why I buy CDs at all, when I can just do what 99% of the rest of the population has done....just illegally download and save myself some money. I wonder if the morons that run this business ever consider the side-effects of their mind-blowing idiotic decisions.

You realize there will probably be a normal release and you don't have to buy the special edition, right?

Just like you didn't have to buy 10,000 Days with the lenses in the cover.

But you've gotta admit that the lack of release information itself is frustrating. As a consumer, it would be nice to know one's options in advance.

Oh sure, but Tool is one of those bands where the music is only one part of a release. Adam Jones might not be doing all the art anymore, but they seem to make very conscious choices with their packaging.
