[2018-05-25] Prince "Nothing Compares 2 U" 7-inch vinyl single (Warner/Rhino)

Description
"Nothing Compares 2 U" contains the original version of the iconic song. This previously unreleased version was recorded in 1984, six years before 1990's classic reimagining by Sinéad O'Connor and before Prince started performing the song live. The track was recorded at the Flying Cloud Drive 'Warehouse' in Eden Prairie by Prince's long-time engineer Susan Rogers, and originally composed, arranged and performed in its entirety by Prince, aside from the backing vocals by Susannah Melvoin and Paul "St. Paul" Peterson. Also featured on the original track is saxophone work by Eric Leeds.

i have to say it, this vinyl shit is really getting old, really fast.

who is buying the stuff? and at the ridiculous;y inflated prices and poor quality too?

At $10, this is a bargain compared to the Florence + The Machine ($16) and Motörhead ($25) 7" singles I saw yesterday.

That is ridiculous. I didn't use to pay that much for Japan 7" singles.

I'd like to have a digital lossless version of this.

It is a live recording on Hits if memory serves.

i just listened to the studio version on spotify....the live version, IMHO, is much much better.

It may have been limited distro for RSD, but this is already released.

Versus never hearing the music? I can live with that. The Zappa releases that are coming out are being handled by people who had nothing to do with the music. I wouldn't trade them for the world.

The "nothing should be released ever again" posts are ridiculous. Prince fans deserve to hear everything. Sure, there's a financial incentive behind these vault releases. But when Prince was alive, he had to make money from his releases too.

i agree, so long as the done the right way.

if it starts getting to be live show after live show ala hendrix and the doors, it will get very old, very fast.

Prince would be a fantastic subject for live archival releases... so much material, often rearranged from tour to tour, radically different bands (as well as solo performances), etc.

Hell, just start with the various Montreux shows already in the can!
