Remix albums were especially big in the 90's and I bought a few along the way. Like anything, some were better than others. It is surprising to even see a project like this in 2018, but from the samples above I don't see this spearheading a revival of the concept.

I listened to “You Can Call Me Al” in the link above to see if it was a good remix. Shockingly there’s only one line of vocal from the original version - “you want a shot of redemption”. Other than those four seconds, the rest of the 7:23 (7:19) has really nothing to do with the original version, not even a resemblance. It just takes a one second sample of “shot of re” and repeats it throughout. The rest just seems like new drum beats. I can’t believe Paul Simon approved this as a remix for such a classic song. In my humble opinion, this version sounds awful. I realize this remix is labeled as Dub Redemption, and Dubs tend to be primarily instrumental, but this was the biggest hit off the album, and you’d think they’d give it a proper Remix.

I don't dislike the remixed Graceland, but couldn't get through the others. EdisonLite's comments really hit the nail on the head for this botch of YCCMA.

I only have the samples to go on, but this strikes me as a colossal mistake at best and a complete clusterf**k at worst. It's very hard for me to believe that Paul Simon would consent to having his music destroyed like this.

This is absolutely awful . I mean if they were desperate for a release , they could have gathered together the bonus cuts from the rereleases or his Saturday Night Live appearances over the last 42 years , put out the Complete Unplugged , or a concert from the archives ( the shows from the Cleveland Agora in 1979 during the filming of “One Trick Pony “ would be great to see ). This is just absolutely pointless .

At the time of its release, Simon came under fire for cultural appropriation and was accused of exploiting the South African music that inspired him and that he wanted to honor. This project might not be for everyone (me included, for the most part), but I suspect the remixers here love the original Graceland and are using the opportunity to participate here to pay tribute to Simon in the same way that he chose to celebrate the South African musicians whose work he loved.

Brooklyn OWNS this charmer!
Wow. That first video encompasses everything I despise about modern remixes of classic material succinctly.
